I Am Good at Lots of Things is a story about Alex, a girl who feels like she never has any luck. She learns that even if she doesn't win, trying and not giving up is really what makes someone a winner. Great for self-esteem, this novel is written by a child who has had challenges and wanted to share her experiences!

everybody is good at something
I am good at lots of things by Jessica Arnold
Illustrated colorful children's book about Alex and she can't seem to win anything.
All of her friends and sister win a contest but not her. Her mom takes her shopping and the lady says she's lucky to have curly hair to wear the new bows in.
Alex never thought of that! She notices others who are in a wheelchair and that really gets her to thinking just what she is good at.
The author's other works are highlighted at the end of the book.
a book teaching us to celebrate the things we are good at
Alex is a second grader and she likes being helpful to others. She enjoys entering contests, but she usually ends up being sad because she tries hard but she never seems to be as good as she thought. All she could think about was winning.
Through a series of events, other people commend and compliment Alex on her various talents. It gets her thinking about the things she is good at, instead of trying to win in those areas for contests. She begins to realize itâs not winning, itâs about doing something fun or good.
This is a great book to use for teaching young children to be thankful and grateful and recognize their talents instead of focusing on winning or excelling and being rewarded in those areas.
Great point
I liked that this children's book showed that you are valuable, talented, and good at things even if you do not win 1 st place & if you don't ever win anything. All children need to feel good about themselves. Winning isn't everything. There are so many different contributions kids can make that make them feel good and appreciated.
I am an illustrator & they crayon drawings did kinda bug me. I'd rather have seen the illustrations done in a professional manner because the drawings seem to make the great message have an armature feel about it.
Great Book
I enjoyed this book. It is a great way for kids to see that they don't have to be perfect at things to be good. It is okay to not be competitive. I think this is very positive for kids! Helps them to see that it is okay to be the best that they can be and to be happy with who they are. Makes it even better for them that it is written by a peer and not an adult.
Learning who you really are
This is a very good child's book. It will teach children that they are good at many different things. I also believe it will teach children to believe in themselves; building good character in a child. Every child should read this book. My two-year old loved all the colorful pictures the book had to offer! Keep up the good work J.L. Arnold! I hope to see more books in the future!
