Nutrition & Cancer
According to current stats, around 1 in 2 people with be affected by cancer in their lifetimes.
In this podcast, we spoke to Lorna Rhodes (mBANT, r CNHC), Seed's specialist Nutritional Therapist for cancer patients. Here, Lorna shares the process of getting to the root cause of a cancer diagnosis through DNA testing and other methods, and how this helps her support her patients through treatment and recovery.
Originally a cookery writer and food stylist for over 30 years, Lorna has published 18 cookery books and written thousands of recipes.
Said Lorna, "After experiencing breast cancer myself, I became deeply curious about why cancer develops and how we can better support the body during treatment and recovery. This led me to undertake specialist training in oncology nutrition. Today, I help clients prepare for treatment, manage side effects, and rebuild strength afterwards — offering personalised guidance that makes a real difference during a vulnerable time.
"Every client I see is unique. That’s why I use a tailored approach, combining evidence-based nutrition, lifestyle support, and where appropriate, advanced testing such as gut health analysis or DNA (genetic or nutrigenomic) testing. These tools give powerful insights into why someone may be feeling unwell — whether it’s digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, or even changes in mood and cognition. By understanding the whole picture, I can guide clients toward practical steps that truly support their well-being.
"As a practitioner, I advocate every day in clinical practice; how and what to eat to optimise your health and wellbeing. This ethos is at the core of personalised nutrition and simply means embracing food and diet as the first-line strategy to support health and prevent diet-induced illness."
As with all of our campaigns at Seed, our aim is to share helpful content from our range of experts. And in this particular campaign, all those we are talking to either work or have worked with cancer patients OR they have gone through cancer themselves.
