    Keeping Adams County residents safe is a big job, and it takes a big team to do it.


    The work is handled in part by the staff at the Adams County Emergency Services Center, located on Greenamyer Lane East of Gettysburg. The center coordinates police, fire, and EMS services for the entire county.


    In addition to the 911 center the team also monitors hazardous wastes, and is the home of the county's disaster preparation team.

    Although the team lost to Haverford College on Saturday, until then it was on an eighteen game winning streak, the longest-ever for the team and the longest-ever in the Centennial conference. And the team has broken into the national Division III rankings.

    The Gettysburg Christmas Festival is this weekend and it is bringing a lot of activity to town.



    The Festival kicks off Friday evening with the Christmas Parade at 6 p.m.

    There is a 32-page booklet describing the many festival activities.

    There are also a static map and an interactive map.

    Be aware there will be a number of road closures around town during the festival.

    In this podcast I unwrap the Festival for you, summarizing the many activities and giving you an overview of the upcoming events.

    In this episode of the Gettysburg Connection podcast I talk with Gretchen Natter, head of the Center for Public Service at Gettysburg College.


    The center, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, gives students an opportunity to learn from, interact with, and perform service for people around the world. Every year, hundreds of students engage in community outreach, helping people on issues relating to immigration rights, food justice, poverty eradication, and education equity and access.

    The Fall 2019 Adams County Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.


    In this episode I talk with Vandessa Johnson, Democratic candidate for borough council member from the 3rd ward.

    Johnson has been active member of the Gettysburg community since 2004. She has been a member of the Old Getty Place Committee and the Safe, Clean and Green committee, and she has worked extensively with SCCAP.


    In this interview she talks about her ideas for children, transportation, education, safety, and many other topics.


    Remember that the last day to apply for an absentee ballot for the November election is October 29, and that Adams County polling places are open for voting from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
