Everybody dies. Nobody leaves....
After narrowly surviving a near-fatal shooting, Portland detective Myron Vale wakes with a bullet still lodged in his brain, a headache to end all headaches, and a terrible side effect that radically transforms his world for the worse: he sees ghosts. Lots of them.
By some estimates, 100 billion people lived and died before anyone alive today was even born. For Myron, they're all still here. That's not even his biggest problem. No matter how hard he tries, he can't tell the living from the dead.
Despite this, Myron manages to piece together something of a life as a private investigator specializing in helping people on both sides of the great divide - until a stunning blonde beauty walks into his office needing help finding her husband. Myron wants no part of the case until he sees the man's picture...and instantly his carefully reconstructed life begins to unravel.

âEverybody dies. Nobody leaves.â
Private detective of sorts Myron Vale has good reason to be reclusive. Ghosts remain on Earth after someone dies. ALL of them. Myron is twice cursed by a lingering injury, as not only can he see and interact with the multitude of ghosts everyone else is unaware of, he canât tell them from the livingâ
Ghost Detective surrounds a strong hard boiled detective core with a fascinating supernatural concept. The blending of the two genres really works and the premise is well used. Little details, like Myron being a recluse, arise naturally and make things feel authentic within the extraordinary setup.
The story is a little heavy on plot convenient coincidence and a few things fit too neatly, but itâs still compelling overall, with logical progression and reasonably interesting characters and developments. This is a good opening book, and Myronâs adventures have the potential to be even better going forward.
It was okay!
I enjoyed this book. It was interesting and intriguing, but what I did not like was the author's prose. I do not like going back and forth to different episodes with Myron ( the detective). I was getting interested in a chapter and then move to something that happened before. I guess that this the writers way of telling a story, But still a good book.
"If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts." - Adam Duritz
Five years ago, Myron Vale was a Portland, Oregon cop. Then he happened into a robbery at a Starbucks and was shot in the head. When he wakes up six months later, he can see ghosts. In fact, he finds out that everyone who has EVER died is now a ghost and he's the only live person who can see them.
Move ahead five years and now Myron is a private detective, working for both the living and the dead.
This is a fun concept for this story. Myron's many interactions with ghosts add that special touch that makes this more than a detective novel. It starts out with a definite noirish vibe, with the requisite hot blonde walking into his office to hire him.
