Thought the book was boring and plot silly. Don't waste your money.
    The fierce bond of family
"I had always believed my father capable of a massacre. Whenever I heard on the news that there had been a killing spree, I would hold my breath, unable to relax until it was clear that it couldn't have been him." (Wording may not appear the same in final published edition).
Randolph Tiefenthaler grew up with a father who had an extensive gun collection. Not only were the guns loaded but Randolphâs father had a bit of a temper. Randolph always had a fear that one night his father would come upstairs and kill him and/or his brother. Randolph is an adult now with a wife and children when his father is arrested for murder. It all started when Randolph moved his family to a new building where Dieter Tiberius is living in the basement apartment. Dieter is an odd character who turns into a menacing one when he starts to stalk Randolph and his family and accuses the parents of sexually abusing their children.
This is an excellent psychological thriller with deep insight into family bonds and the fears implanted in us as children that we continue to live with throughout our adult life. Iâve seen other reviews saying the author lectures about issues but I thought the whole book was fascinating. I hung on every word and loved the buildup of suspense. No one seemed to be able to help this family â not their lawyer, not the police and not childrenâs services. At times I thought, just move away, but they hadnât done anything wrong to lose their home, but since it involved children, I would have been out of there. Regardless, I was quite impressed by this author. Apparently, the book is loosely based on the authorâs own experience with a stalker so he had firsthand knowledge of what this type of situation can do to a person.
The author is from Germany and he has written 8 novels, many of which, including this book, have been adapted for film, television and radio in Germany. âFearâ is the first to be translated into English. Iâll be keeping an eye out for any others that will be translated in the future for sure.
I donât usually give thrillers 5 star reviews as I reserve 5 stars for books that really have a profound impact on me. But in a way I think the book did have a profound impact on me as Iâm still thinking about it though Iâm writing this review weeks after reading the book. This story showing how quickly our immediate world can become one thatâs horribly distressful fills my thoughts throughout the days. If youâre looking for a thriller with psychological insight, I highly recommend this one.
This book was given to me by the publisher in return for an honest review.
    a gripping and thought-provoking read.
    4.5 stars
âWe grew up untouched by weapons as everyone else â but for the fact that the guns were there, which changed everything.

    Enjoyable, interesting eries
When I was reading this, I said how could I have missed this series? Well written, clean, exciting, you are there, plots, romance, and just entertaining. Shifter kids are disappearing and the FBI xxxxxxxx. The best thing of this book is finding believable actions/plots and not pages, and pages of sex with no plot. The next book comes out 12 25 2017 and I have all ready ordered it.
    Interesting and exciting

Another great addition to the wonderful Sam Casey series!
In Buried Secrets, book 8 of S.D. Tooley's Sam Casey series, Sam and her husband Jake are called to Hayward Bluff, South Carolina to help a friend held for murder. Carl Underer, woke up in an hotel next to a deceased woman with no idea who she is or how he got there. Jake is asked to come and to bring his wife, Sam to help in the investigation of the case. In an area where ghosts, treasure hunting, Indian and voodoo are the norm, Sam feels at home with her gifts. As with all her books, Buried Secrets, is a well written, well plotted and entertaining mystery. I love the characters and it moves at a steady pace. This is a wonderful series for those of you who love mysteries with paranormal elements. If you have not read any of the Sam Casey mysteries, I recommend you start because you are missing out on a good series. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
    Sam is in Florida
This time, Sam is away from her usual stomping grounds; she's in Florida because of an old friend of her husband. The friend called, from jail, without using his real name. It's up to Jake and Sam to discover why he ended up waking in a cheap motel lying next to a dead woman. As it turns out, the caller is a former director of the FBI and a good friend. The story involves a frame up, several more murders, a woman who changes identities as others change socks, a ghost, a family photo, and a treasure hunt. Some Civil War history and Florida geography are tossed in to further the intrigue. A smashing read!
    You can't put it down
I loved loved loved it. This book is awesome the whole series is, I've reread all of them just to get ready to read this one. And I've gotta tell ya better then the first time. A Special thanks to this author for writing another great book

A lonely Korean pop star learns her high school classmate died five years ago. So, why are they still texting?
Yubin knows she's different than the other girls in the pop group SIITY. Yes, they all got sucked into the same machine, giving up schooling and signing ridiculously long contracts with no guarantee of success, but that's how Korean stars are made. Yubin is supposed to be thankful for that, but she isn't. She doesn't even like the girls she performs with.
She's more connected to her former schoolmate Jieun, even though all they ever do is text. Over the last two months, Jieun has become her confidant and best friend, connecting Yubin to the real world in a way she desperately needs. Now that SIITY is going to appear on the reality show Incredible Race: Asia, Yubin will need that connection more than ever, which is why she's devastated to discover Jieun has been dead five years and is actually haunting her.
If that weren't enough, Yubin's not the only SIITY member with issues. Rena's father is emotionally abusive. Somi has a learning disability, and after a near death experience, Tae-eun becomes a nine-tailed fox woman. The only way they'll survive the show, each other, and the supernatural currents buffeting them is to work together and win the hearts of their fans. Because if they don't, they have nothing to go back to even if they survive what's trying to kill them.

    Unusual and entertaining
I really enjoyed this entertaining and unusual audiobook. The unique storyline easily draws you in and takes you into a world of pop idols, ghosts, empaths, vampires and nine tail foxes. I knew nothing of the Korean k-pop culture before listening to this book and I found that fascinating in itself, as well as it having a great storyline. The story is told from various individual POVs, showing the thoughts, fears, insecurities and emotions of each character with a few unexpected twists mixed in. I loved that all his idols were not model perfect and that he showed some of the nastier side of show business too. The narrator did an excellent job. She brought out the unique personalities and gave the characters individual voices. Her clear delineation of characters helped me greatly, as I did struggle a little with the various names at first, but that speaks more to my lack of knowledge of Asian names than it does the writing or the narration. This is an unusual and very enjoyable story and I will look forward to other books by this author in the future.
    Dark, Fun, and Paranormal
If you could sum up The Beautiful Dead in three words, what would they be?
Dark (by K-Pop standards), Fun, Paranormal
What other book might you compare The Beautiful Dead to and why?
Easier to say what it's not like.. It may take place in Korea, but this story isn't like a Korean drama. It's a lot darker, exploring the ugly side K-Pop industry (exploitation - sexual and otherwise), that I haven't seen in any K-Dramas - I love this about this book.

    Four Stars
A house of special properties for certain types of people, now broken and nightmarish.
"There are houses like this all over the world..."
    4.5 stars!
SONGS OF DREAMING GODS, by William Meikle, is another installment of his take on "special" houses that exist in locations where the veil between the living and the dead are the thinnest. This particular novel takes place in St. John's, Newfoundland.
Called back early from the recovery of a nearly deadly stomach wound, John Green finds himself in charge of a particularly barbaric, multiple homicide. The location is an apartment in an otherwise untenanted building. Along with him, he brings Janis Lodge--who he had come to rely upon as much off the force, as on it--and Todd Wiggins.
    ". . . There's quiet, and there's downright creepy . . ."
The atmosphere gets to the reader without any hesitation. After first seeing the signs of carnage and sending the lone survivor off to be questioned, a strange--almost physically obtrusive--fog encompasses the building. John finds himself on the inside, while his co-workers are on the outside.
Although the house was now "different" than the one he originally entered . . .
"Is this what the doctor meant when he said there might be mental instability? . . . I can tell you right now for nothing, I'm feeling pretty f---ing unstable."
Each scene is designed to both give additional information about the situation, and to show the reader the individual characters. We learn about them--their history, current status, and fears--directly from the "observations" we garner as the novel progresses.
". . . She knew that a foot-high doll couldn't reach the door handle, but she also knew that dolls didn't jump down off shelves and run across floors."
With the "realities" of the building in constant fluctuation, you might expect to feel as lost as the characters themselves. However, Meikle is quite adept at getting his point across without necessarily having to spell everything out. The shroud of mystery is almost like a puzzle we have to solve in order to get to the prize.
    ". . . The Dreaming God is singing where he lies . . . "
Personally, I really enjoy this theme that Meikle has developed in some of his novels and novellas. The idea of buildings that have the proximity to . . . other . . .

    World at war...Enter Casket Girls
Before I begin talking about how much I love this book, it's worth mentioning that although I won't be spoiling anything from this book, there are certain things that need to be mentioned that came as pretty fun surprises when reading the first two books. If you're reading this and haven't read at least the first book, either read my review there or just better yet just buy it. Long story short, the series has gotten much better as it went along leading to a pretty epic finish.
Before I started this one, I was thinking about what exactly I wanted out of it as a conclusion to the trilogy. I got most of what I wanted, and the specific I'd like to mention is I wanted to see more of the shadowy villains pulling the puppet strings behind the curtain. Our villains are not only bent on the destruction of our hero and all he holds dear, but also fight among themselves like politicians turned up to 11. At times they remind me of my favorite fictional crew of villains, The Forsaken from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. I had my favorites, the ones I was rooting for, the ones I hated, and although there are some we haven't spent much time with, only appearing in this book, they're characters are instantly brought to life and within only a few paragraphs I feel like I know them...Until a few paragraphs later when they're sneaky machinations take over.
With villains this good, it's almost a bit of a bummer when you get back to the protagonists. I mentioned in my other reviews that I haven't found Dax to be the most interesting of protagonists, typically I've enjoyed the characters he meets along the way a little bit more. A favorite of mine was no longer around so I was worried there wouldn't be something on the good guys side to get me excited to return to their chapters...
    ...Enter The Casket Girls
Not going to say too much about them, but they're awesome and kept me excited to return to the heroes' chapters. Full of all sorts of charisma they're some of the best characters in the series.
There needed to be a proper epic conclusion to the series. The first book gave us a glimpse of the apocalypse. It was a much smaller story, more about family than anything. The second book made the entire world its stage, and now each of our characters were suddenly the most powerful people on the planet. An epic formed from a rather simple horror story. So does it deliver?
    Yes. It does.
Things get crazy, you'll love it.
    Great series!
I started reading it thinking it was a zombie series. That it was in a way and much more! The two authors have blown this out of the water and I can't wait to read more from these two!
    Final Awakening Book 3
Lots of action and suspense. Liked the characters. The ending was not what I expected, but still good. Will look forward to reading more from this author.
    Great read
I really enjoyed this series. I was sorry it ended. Can't wait for the next one to start.
