An OK Book

More than 10 years ago, Lillian called Orla, saying, "I have so much to tell you." There was a knock on Lillian's door, and she told Orla she was going to the door to see who was there. Orla waited...and waited...and waited... But Lillian never returned. Now 10 years later, Lillian's disappearance remains a mystery. Anonymous notes begin appearing insinuating that Ned Moynihan, the lead detective, did not investigate the case appropriately. From that point, Ned begins looking into Lillian's disappearance again. The book becomes a big tedious in the middle as the investigation proceeds somewhat sluggishly. The end fell kind of flat because there was really no big twist or reveal. It was not a bad book but was not really suspenseful either.

Mystery In A Troubled Town

What an engrossing read! A multi-layered and complex storyline pursues the mystery of Lillianâs disappearance down through the years, transporting Orla from London to an Irish seaside town close to Dublin, ten years later. Here, in this coastal village, amid a vortex of threat, apprehension and paranoia, we find more questions than answers, with seemingly everyone, from the police inspector to the stable-boy, beset with issues. As the tale unfolds, our best guesses are deftly disarmed and our options dwindle almost to the point where we wonder if Lillian is indeed dead, or has simply bolted. The resolution is presented with the same teasing flair, keeping us wondering till the very end what else we have missed. I loved it.

Could stop listening!!!

Great book...characters realy come to life and you can feel their emotion. Makes you stop to think about what the image of ourselves we show the world is compared to our real inner selves with all our insecurities and self doubts.

Great Read

This story portrays the story of someone who is unable to express her feelings, and her behaviors aren't what you'd expect from a loving wife and mother, it has some unexpected twists and explores her psychological perception. I really enjoyed it!

What a tangled web we weave...

A great read! That "perfect" life Jackie leads straddles the line between reality and fantasy, and that line appears to blur more and more. The deeper she gets into her own little world the more unstable her reality gets.... until it hits her like a brick wall. Things are NEVER what they seem.

I listened to this while getting chores done. I found myself LOOKING for chores to do, so I could continue listening! Great way to pass the time and forget you are doing chores!

Thought provoking story, great performance

What made the experience of listening to Limerence the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed listening to the book being brought to life by the reader. I listened to it on an airplane and closed my eyes and the reader brought each character to life with different voices and inflections that kept me pulled in.

What other book might you compare Limerence to and why?

I don't have a particular book, but it was very interesting to travel inside Jackie's mind...

What about Catherine Hunters performance did you like?

She did the different voices *very* well. There were a number of accents required: Brittish, NY, little kids, male and female

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to, but broke it up between a few plane rides on a recent trip.

It's always interesting to hear what goes on inside the mind of one who supposedly 'has it all' and it's a reminder that appearances can be deceiving.

Different Narrator PLEASE

I really want to listen to this book but the choice of narrator is extremely off. I always give narrators a lot of slack and a lot of credit, but not this time. This narrator is monotone, middle-aged and most significantly, a man - whereas all 3 of the main characters are women. It really throws me off and unfortunately, I just cant get into the book.

Primarily About Self-Forgiveness: How Deep is Your Love?

This novel is primarily about forgiveness. The hardest kind: self-forgiveness. It is a testament to the destruction in pretending to be âbetter thanâ others, and the reconstruction in understanding we ARE âbetter thanâ our inner demons. The author tells us when you truly forgive, you arenât trying to control the narrative anymore...you stop the resistance. And by default (or is it design?) you find acceptance. In being willing to accept both the âgoodâ and âbadâ in ourselves, the whole of who we are, the author reminds us...we are all equals.

Sam's self-destructive behavior does become painful to witness

The Blind by A.F. Brady is a highly recommended debut novel of addictions, codependency, psychological self-examination and redemption.

Samantha "Sam" James, 37, always acts positive and keeps her inner demons at bay while maintaining her position as the best psychologist at Manhattanâs Typhlos Psychiatric Center, where she is admired by her boss and peers. Very well-written with well-developed characters

I've been a fan of this author for a long time, but this is one of her best and became an instant favorite. I look forward to rereading this one in the future. It was very well written and the characters were very well-developed. I've come to enjoy historical fiction and I'm a particular fan of the time period (1940s) that this book was set in. It was fascinating to read about the polio epidemic and the racial issues of that time in North Carolina, where the majority of the book is set. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever enjoyed a Diane Chamberlain novel or who enjoys historical fiction from the 1940s time period, or to anyone who is just looking for a good book to read.

I really enjoyed the story. A good picture is set of life in the south durning WW2. Rationing. High social standing in a small town. Small minded and small spirited people and the heartbreak the can cause. Also learned about the polo epidemic, I was a child in grade school in the mid 50âs and remember lining down the hall to the principalâs office to get the polo vaccination.

A good story and I learned some things too. Thank you.

I have always loved how Diane tells a story

Though only a few chapters in I became very ill when I was able to read again I was right back to the story in no time. I have always loved how Diane tells a story. She is a master at her craft. I still find myself thinking of the book often.

Not a bad ending

Not for me. Lead character was not likeable, or believable. Got bored with her very quickly. Good, but somewhat obvious, twist at the end.

Utterly Dreadful !

Was this book meant for teenagers?

I think I made a mistake buying this book thinking it was adult fiction. It was truly dreadful and I finally gave up when I could no longer listen to the dreadful dialogue between a bunch of eleven year olds that sounded as far fetched as I have ever had to listen to. Nothing about this book rang true, the very silly story, the awful main character who acted totally unprofessionally as a child psychologist and would have been immediately struck off, and the pre teens who acted and sounded like adult hardened criminals. I even felt sorry for Lisa Coleman having to narrate such drivel, I normally enjoy her work and the characterisation she brings to a story. I think even she gave up this time. What a waste of a few hours.

A really cracking story

Whilst I realised whodunnit midway in, the twist did catch me out! I never mind that, I really enjoyed it. Good story telling and great narration from Lisa Coleman as always. Highly recommended.

Demeters Tablet finds Nia & her gal pal meeting up with gods. This story is about 1/4 archeology, 1/2 mushy love triangle, and 1/4 action. The story is good but if you were expecting the amount of action seen in the first book youll likely be disappointed. The first hour or so, the narrator comes off as mechanical (same as the 1st book) with unnecessary & unusual slight pauses after each sentence.
