World at war...Enter Casket Girls
Before I begin talking about how much I love this book, it's worth mentioning that although I won't be spoiling anything from this book, there are certain things that need to be mentioned that came as pretty fun surprises when reading the first two books. If you're reading this and haven't read at least the first book, either read my review there or just better yet just buy it. Long story short, the series has gotten much better as it went along leading to a pretty epic finish.
Before I started this one, I was thinking about what exactly I wanted out of it as a conclusion to the trilogy. I got most of what I wanted, and the specific I'd like to mention is I wanted to see more of the shadowy villains pulling the puppet strings behind the curtain. Our villains are not only bent on the destruction of our hero and all he holds dear, but also fight among themselves like politicians turned up to 11. At times they remind me of my favorite fictional crew of villains, The Forsaken from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. I had my favorites, the ones I was rooting for, the ones I hated, and although there are some we haven't spent much time with, only appearing in this book, they're characters are instantly brought to life and within only a few paragraphs I feel like I know them...Until a few paragraphs later when they're sneaky machinations take over.
With villains this good, it's almost a bit of a bummer when you get back to the protagonists. I mentioned in my other reviews that I haven't found Dax to be the most interesting of protagonists, typically I've enjoyed the characters he meets along the way a little bit more. A favorite of mine was no longer around so I was worried there wouldn't be something on the good guys side to get me excited to return to their chapters...
...Enter The Casket Girls
Not going to say too much about them, but they're awesome and kept me excited to return to the heroes' chapters. Full of all sorts of charisma they're some of the best characters in the series.
There needed to be a proper epic conclusion to the series. The first book gave us a glimpse of the apocalypse. It was a much smaller story, more about family than anything. The second book made the entire world its stage, and now each of our characters were suddenly the most powerful people on the planet. An epic formed from a rather simple horror story. So does it deliver?
Yes. It does.
Things get crazy, you'll love it.
Great series!
I started reading it thinking it was a zombie series. That it was in a way and much more! The two authors have blown this out of the water and I can't wait to read more from these two!
Final Awakening Book 3
Lots of action and suspense. Liked the characters. The ending was not what I expected, but still good. Will look forward to reading more from this author.
Great read
I really enjoyed this series. I was sorry it ended. Can't wait for the next one to start.
