Former UConn Football Star, Captain, College Football Broadcasting specialist, Sean Mulcahy is here for Husky Talk-SNS. We take a look at the Giants moves since a very good NFL draft, along with some other teams.
QB Aaron Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh, QB Baker Mayfield waiting on a new contract from Tampa Bay, Houston playing it close to the vest on their future with QB CJ Stroud. I think we see a theme here now, NFL General Managers being uncertain about Quarterbacks. The most important position on an NFL team, also with highest salaries. We discuss college football wanting to expand playoffs to 24 schools, and UConn potentially moving into the PAC 12.
Sean can see the potential with a good core returning for the Giants. Having a setback with star WR Malik Neighbors needing a second surgery to clean up scar tissue could turn into a huge setback, Sean thinks with our luck he will be out until week 10! Obviously, it should not be that significant and missing extra OTAs, practice time teams with new coaches have is tough. Neighbors is a special playmaker who I believe will fine, I don’t see this slowing him down.
With Dart, Cam, Malik, Carter, Thibs and an excellent draft class, Bleacher Report ranked the G-Men 4th overall based on teams who have the best young talent. Adding Reese as an edge, Mauigoa to the offensive line who has been inconsistent, taking Hood at corner who many rated as a first rounder provides three potential starters. WR Fields from Notre Dame was another excellent selection and steal in the 3rd round.
We think the Giants will surprise the NFC East, if they stay healthy, looking at their schedule, I said they make the playoffs. Teams when hiring head coaches can get too cute, look for another 32 year old Sean McVay, love attention from hiring the unexpected. The Giants didn’t mess around, John Harbaugh became available, they got the best guy for the job.
We debate Pittsburgh resigning QB Aaron Rogers, Tampa and Houston not committing long term to QBs Baker Mayfield or CJ Stroud. Waiting costs teams more money. Finishing with UConn, PAC 12 rumors, fact or fiction.
