Update: I recently launched my newsletter, The Sheconomist, and would love for you to subscribe: sheconomist.com - I share so many tools and resources that help young, high-achieving women with radical money and career self-advocacy.

Women’s careers and fertility are inevitably intertwined. Mothers in the workplace are not only often met with bias but their earning potential oftentimes takes a hit as well. While gender pay gaps impact women overall - and especially women of color - the gap also widens for mothers, with data suggesting that working moms get as little as 58 cents for every dollar dads earn.
No wonder that an increasing number of young women is choosing to delay pregnancy and focus on their careers instead.
As a by-product of this generational shift, fertility preservation, most notably, elective egg freezing, is becoming increasingly popular with women in their 20s and early 30s.
When Thamina started documenting her egg freezing journey online in 2022 and one of her LinkedIn posts went viral, she wasn’t expecting the amount of messages she received from women all over the world. And because Thamina had hit a nerve, she decided to invite a fertility doctor to the show.
Jaime M. Knopman, M.D. is a board-certified and award-winning reproductive endocrinologist and Director of Fertility Preservation for CCRM New York.
On this episode, Dr. Knopman explains the egg freezing process in more detail and addresses common misconceptions around fertility and fertility preservation.
Thamina vulnerably shares her fertility struggles and the emotional rollercoaster associated with her egg freezing process.
This is Part 1 of our 2-Part Fertility Preservation Series.
