More than seven centuries before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the prophet Isaiah penned these words regarding the coming Messiah. "He shall see the labor of His soul and be satisfied." On this side of Calvary we know that the labor was His death on the cross, but as the author of Hebrews said, "for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross." Yet, unless He had broken the power of death, His labor would have been in vain. This Sunday we will celebrate the Risen and Victorious Christ and Pastor Kevin will unpack the words of Isaiah as he preaches from Isaiah 53 -- Suffering Servant -- Satisfied King.

Good Friday Message

The streets were lined as Jesus entered Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday. The crowds hailed Him as King while the Jewish leaders reached their tipping point and moved in to execute Him. What no one realized was that Jesus was fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah, and those Jerusalem worshippers were the first fruits of His inheritance -- the multitudes that He would soon redeem. "One does not surrender a life in an instant. That which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime." These words were found in the diary of Ecuadoran missionary martyr Jim Elliot. As we continue the series Christ in the Psalms this Sunday, Pastor Kevin will look at the 40th psalm and see how it depicts Jesus in His self-sacrifice, total obedience, and bountiful grace-giving. The late John Stott wrote, "The Cross holds suffering and hope together and invites us to praise Him in faith for a day that it all gives way to victory!" It was from the cross that Jesus cried out the words of Psalm 22, "My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken Me?" As Pastor Kevin continues his series, Christ in the Psalms this Sunday, he will look closely at this psalm and explore the manner in which Christ endured the cross, how even in His cry of desperation, His trust was revealed, and how that confidence can be ours when we face trials.
