    Thanksgiving Interfaith Food & Funds Drive

    Saturday, November 20, 1-4 p.m. | Gather at Second Baptist Church

    Make plans today to take part in an interfaith initiative to benefit neighbors being served through the Mid-South Food Bank. Due to COVID-19, nearly 1 in 4 people in the MidSouth face food insecurity. Working together with a diverse group of members from other congregations, we can make a difference in people’s lives during the season of thanksgiving.

    On Saturday, November 20 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. we will join volunteers from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim congregations who have been coming together for worship for more than 30 years. Everyone is asked to volunteer for a 90-minute shift alongside other people of goodwill from across our beloved community. We will meet 15 minutes prior to each shift in the east parking lot of Second Baptist Church for a time of prayer and instructions for collecting donations. The food bank needs shelf-stable, non-perishable food items as well as funds to support its work. Just $10 will purchase 30 meals.

Lavonnie and Swazoo Claybon - both parishioners at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mason, TN - are active in their local chapter of the UBE and in many outreach initiatives tethered to St. Paul's historical dedication to education.

    MORE ABOUT MOTHER KIM

    The Very Rev Kim L. Coleman has served as rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia since November 2002. An Episcopalian since 1993, Rev. Kim graduated cum laude from Virginia Theological Seminary in May 2001 and was ordained to the priesthood in December 2001. In addition to a Master of Divinity degree, Kim holds Bachelor of Arts degrees (1980) in Political Science and Economics from The Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania. Prior to entering the ordination track, Kim pursued a career in the association management and human resources. She has served as a Delegate to General Convention and member of the Union of Black Episcopalians and has served on both the Diocesan Standing and Executive Committees as well as an Adjunct Professor for VTS. Mother Kim believes in the therapeutic power of laughter and describes herself as a "committed, striving, often obedient yet still imperfect follower of Christ who loves sharing God's joy with others".


    MORE ABOUT DR. PERRY CLAYBON

    Lavonnie Perry Claybon, Ph.D. is a Research Assistant Professor and the Director of the Mid-South Access Center for Technology at the University of Memphis, where she is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive Assistive Technology Program that provides services to individuals of all ages with disabilities. For over 32 years, Dr. Perry Claybon has worked as an expert in the fields of education, human development, budgetary management, assistive technology, grant writing, and professional development and training. She holds multiple certifications in her fields of expertise. She has presented at local and national conferences in her various fields of experience. Aside from her work in human resources, assistive technology, and human development and training, Dr. Perry Claybon has taught traditional classes and online classes. These classes have focal points on educational technologies, teacher education, research methods, critical issues in distance education, and learning disabilities. She has taught these classes for the University of Memphis, George Washington University, and Drexel University.

    After 25 years in development and management of a regional insurance and financial organization, The Craddock Company, Bill sold the business in 1991 and served in consulting and executive roles in the national Episcopal Church retiring as Senior Vice President of the Church Pension Group in 2015. Bill served as president of numerous local civic boards including Planned Parenthood, Memphis Rotary Club, and Goals for Memphis. He has also served on national non-profit boards including Planned Parenthood Federation, Alan Guttmacher Institute, Episcopal Church Foundation, and Church Pension Fund. In 2016, Bill co-found Give Back Memphis, which helps address the capacity-building needs of the local nonprofit sector by providing pro bono business consulting services. What started out with one consultancy in 2016, has grown exponentially year over year. To date Give Back Memphis has provided 49 unique consultancies to 39 different nonprofits whose services span the gamut of needs in our community.
