Genesis #2

As the apostle concludes his letter, he focuses on leadership within the church. It is interesting to see that Peter is also an elder in a local church.

While this letter is preparing Christians for persecution from Rome, Peter reminds all of us who the real enemy is: Satan. Look out! He's seeking to devour.   

In conclusion, may we hold these words close to our hearts: "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen"

Peter encourages Christians to not only anticipate a "fiery trial" but see it as an opportunity as much as a challenge. 

The Christian view of persecution:

"Arm yourself for battle" is the focus of Peter's lesson in 1 Peter 4. This battle is not with the world as much as it is within ourselves. We long to have the "same mind" as a Savior and Redeemer. The "victorious sufferer" is resisting the world's ambitions and longing for Heaven. There will be "no sin" there or the longing for sin!

Therefore, "fight" against the urge to participate in worldly endeavors, especially anything that involves a loss of self-control (alcohol).  We are preachers of the gospel in ACTION as well as in word. So, we need to make sure the sermon the world sees in us is filled with the "will of God" and not human desires.

1. Be self-controlled

Join us as we dig into one of the more challenging passages in the New Testament. Did Jesus go to Hell and preach? Who are these "in prison" and why are they there? What does Noah have to do with this study and how does baptism fit into his story and ours? So many questions!
