Riepilogo Editore:

Amaro, umoristico...ansiogeno a tratti!
The real indolent one (lo sdraiato) is the author himself
"Gli sdraiati" is an elegantly written, but painfully superficial, "non-story" about the relation between a petulant father and a teen son whose extremely indolent presence is felt everywhere - mainly in the form of dirty socks left on the floor - but whose voice is never heard (he is in fact a sort of foul-smelling ghost until his very unlikely and a bit ridiculous final redemption while climbing - in a metaphor that runs through the whole book - an Italian mountain called "La Lasca" ). The ambition of being a representation of the generation clash of today Italy is evident, but the result is, to say the least, extremely disappointing, leaving the reader with the impression that the real "sdraiato" (the indolent one) was in fact the author himself, constantly obsessed with watering the flowers he keeps on the balcony of his country house and with almost nothing else. Should those really be the problems and the worries of the Italian young people (and their parents') Italy would indeed be a very happy country. Unfortunately, Italy is today one of the unhappiest country in the planet, and the book is not worth reading. Paradoxically, there is a book that would be worth reading. And it is the one - a kind of epic dystopia about the "final war" between the elders, defending their absolute power, and the youngster, outlawed and forced into the underground - the author fancy to write (in a distant future) during his long (and increasingly boring) complain about his invisible son's untidiness. Let's hope that Michele Serra finally writes this book, finding his own redemption, as his son did climbing the Lasca...
The war of generations in the most funny and eloquent form...
A father of about 50 years of age writes this book as a long letter to his 18 years old son, feeling that the generation gap between them has become too wide to bridge it. The writing is excellent, funny, full of truths and lessons of a lifelong experience.
