Publisher's Summary:
Book two of the Herring Cove Road (Not-So-Nuclear Family Saga) series.
The first murder of a child raised eyebrows; the second raised alarms.
Ten-year-old Dewey is moving, and he couldn't be more excited; though, he's alone in his enthusiasm. Lisa, his mother, and recently retired Avriel, his next door neighbor and best buddy, don't share in his excitement regarding the move from their suburban bungalow to a dirty basement level apartment in the lower class area, where two murders have recently occurred.
This sometimes lighthearted and at other times intense novel follows naive Dewey as he befriends two different streetwise boys, learns the pros and cons of friendship, and is then stalked by a killer preying on children.
About the series:
Taking place primarily in the '70s with believable characters and mostly situated in several areas of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the series chronicles the actions (and their results) of an old and introverted Jewish man, his doting and take-charge wife, a young and struggling single mother, her naive and lonely son, and a boy streetwise beyond his years.
Members Reviews:
Herring Cove Road laugh and cry!
This is a sweet book series. I read the first book as well and loved both of them. The language was clean, the characters were full of life, personality, and the author gave them such greats senses of humor. I enjoy reading stories that make me laugh and cry. This series is full of life, and you end of loving the characters. I will definitely be reading the third book before long.
Pretty cagey book.
This is the second Herring Cove book and an excellent sequel, actually the third in the series just came out and it's just as good. Avriel Rosen is the key character in all three but the others play strong roles. He's an elderly Jewish widow, (at least now), and for all the bumbling he appears to do he really has it together. The was an exciting mystery and kept me on my toes right until the end.
Volume two Herring Cove Road
I love this series by Michael Kroft. His characters are rich and well developed. The story is both heartwarming and well thought out. I will continue this fulfilling series with great anticipation.
Great series. Love the characters more with each page.
Great story in the series. Just wish SOMEONE would proof-read prior to publishing. I don't mean the attempts to capture the maritime dialect, but the rookie errors any ninth grade English teacher would haul you up short for.
All three Herring Cove Road were fun reads. The characters are excellently presented
All three Herring Cove Road were fun reads. The characters are excellently presented. You feel like they could be your friends, and willing to share their adventures.
