We speak to Thomas Ongolo, he’s based in Pretoria, South Africa, and works as a regional Inclusion Adviser and Disability Expert for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GiZ, which is the German Society for International Cooperation.

In our interview we cover the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and especially its implementation on the African Continent.

Although the topic of Apartheid is actually very serious, the interview with taFiks was full of joy. He said: "At the end of the day there is always much more that unifies us as South Africans than that divides us". I think it is very important to keep that sentence in mind!

Today I spoke to Dr. Mnqobi Ngubane about the big topic of "land question" here in South Africa. Until today, about three quarters of privately-owned land is in the hand of whites, who make up 8% of the population. Only 4% of privately-held land is owned by Blacks who are nearly 80% of South Africa's 60-million population (source: Reuters 2025). It is obvious that there is a big inequality about the ownership of land in South Africa. Together with Dr. Ngubane I talked about possible solutions and also the background for this kind of disparity.

The elections in South Africa took part in may 2024. Together with Luphelele - a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters - I talked about the elections, the different parties and the new coalition between the ANC (African National Congress) and the DA (Democratic Alliance).
