Let us listen to Rev. Ferdinand de Leon as he encourages us to follow Jesus, the Light of the world, through the exposition of John 8:12.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” - Psalm 119:105

 We all need guidance, for we can commit mistakes, especially in making big or small decisions. We can avail good guidance from caring parents, mature and godly friends, trustworthy, upright, and reliable spiritual leaders and counselors, and even from reading well-informed and guided books. 

 Yet, the best and perfect guidance is from God, from His word. God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. God guides us with the lamp and light of His word. 

 We are assured of—GOD’S GUIDANCE in small and big decisions. He gives understanding and illumination to our minds, for He knows we are limited in making the right choices in life. He knows that confusion can clog our minds. It is difficult to make the right choices when emotionally bothered. God has given us His word to guide us. 

 We must spend time, therefore, with God in His word to receive light on our heads so we can discern good from evil and walk safely on a righteous path. 

 When David, a shepherd, was anointed as the next King of Israel, he never rushed to grab God’s plan of a big promotion. He is content with every opportunity that comes, such as working in the palace for Saul and then leading many in battle. He became an object of envy which led to hatred by the King. There are occasions when David can take matters into his own hands and become the new King. But He waited and listened to God, not to touch His anointed. 

 God honors His trust and patience. God honors his obedience to His word. David’s big promotion comes.  

 We can rest assured of God’s guidance that is pure, righteous, specific, clear, and personal. And His timing is always perfect.

 May God guide you with the light of His word. Amen.
