On Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, after over a month of air raids over Iran and retaliatory missile strikes on Israel and neighboring Gulf states, the United States and Iran announced a tentative cease fire to hostilities. News of this sent stocks markets surging the following day and oil futures plummeting, but unfortunately over the weekend negotiations broke down surrounding the terms of a peace deal, most notably focused on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz as well as limiting Iranian nuclear capabilities and the presence of American military bases in the region. With the future geopolitical situation in question, as China and Taiwan broach a reconciliation and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict further strains NATO relations, the shape of the world’s monetary order is being challenged with calls to move away from the US dollar and Gulf-state oil system towards a Chinese currency and Russian oil-backed one. Tonight we are joined by two financial experts Ron Dodson and Ace Niederhoff to weigh in on the economic ramifications of these events and discuss what the US and global political order may look like in a post-Trump world.
