Conversations about the unique situations faced by youth of Serbian descent, who are born or grew up in diaspora.

In their struggle to connect two different worlds, some immigrants reject one or the other.

Some immigrants fail to integrate in the country where they reside.

Some children of immigrants develop aversion towards many things Serbian perhaps because their parents unreasonably insist on certain things.

All immigrant children face those issues, however parents' trauma from wars, and the bad reputation from the 1990s are extra burdens.

It is especially interesting to explore how all of this ties into professionalism.

Today with us we have Snezana Pesic, professor at University of Toronto, accomplished performance designer, who won many awards internationally.

Purpose of these talks is to give an insight into various career paths and  perhaps inspire and encourage young people. I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, but I really appreciate you being here as I encountered several young people who are interested in art but discouraged to pursue it because there is this notion out there that it is almost impossible to make a career of it.

Some questions: How did you choose your profession? What helped you get here? What advice would you give to younger people who might want to embark on a similar career? I imagine in your line of work, you have to be away from your home, and work very long hours once in a while.  How do you keep balance in your life on those occasions (health, family,...)? Have you faced any setbacks when you moved to Canada and how did you overcome them? Typical day at work?
