Recognising the inspiring work in Victoria’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community in their small way, the Globe Community Awards honour those who brought us here, celebrate those standing with us and light a clear and safer trail for those who follow.

And on Saturday night, Micah Scott, the CEO of Minus18 was awarded Victorian Person of the Year, an award which represents one of the hardest working and most committed individuals to support our community allowing it to build, reach out, discover and thrive.

Professor Michelle Telfer from the Royal Children’s Hospital was awarded Straight Ally of the year at the Globe Awards on the weekend, whose main area of clinical medicine is in leading the Royal Children’s Hospitals Gender Service, currently the largest multidisciplinary service for transgender children and adolescents in Australia.

YEAH, who for over a decade has lead the way in youth lead sexual health awareness, and after a year of not having a home, has now paired up with the Penington Instute to provide greater support for young people’s awareness about their health on all levels. We speak to YEAH founder Alischa Ross and Penington CEO John Ryan.

Everyone needs someone to talk to. Start Out is a great initiative helping to connect young people of diverse genders and sexualities with mentors who have been through what they are going through and can provide an ear online where they can reach out and engage so that more people can live happier and healthier people living more fulfilling lives.
