Glocal News in Social Artistry began in November, 2017. The vision was to interview (have a 1-hour conversation with) people who are building a more humane world from the inside out. For the first few years it was broadcast live at 10am Wednesdays. Covid moved us to do recorded Zoom interviews. The last few years the show was moved to 5pm Mondays. The Universe provided a wealth of diverse guests over the 5-year run of the show. Shows are found here on Transistor and on Facebook.

Krista Tippett and the on being project. Lucas Johnson lives in Europe and the USA while he works with The Civil Conversation part of the On Being Project. We talked about Vincent Harding's huge influence as Lucas was mentored by him up until his death. 'Uncle Vincent' was a very close associate of Martin Luther King, Jr. Lucas has written about the gap in perspectives between those who focus on what was accomplished by the Civil Rights (Black Freedom) movement of the 50s and 60s and those who focus on what was not accomplished. We discuss that.

Ambika Talwar is an educator, published author, ecstatic poet, and artist who is also deeply involved in the healing arts. A summer trip to Greece in 2002 led to the publication of My Greece: Mirrors and Metamorphoses. This became the basis for much of our conversation. Ambika also shared two of her poems. Her book taught me much in relating Greek and Hindu culture including gods and language. Sutra means thread. Ambika is Kali. There are always layers of meaning if you ask the right questions and are open to other perspectives.

Since 1991, Coyote Hill has grown to include six foster homes on 300 acres north of  Columbia, MO and more recently expanded to Jefferson City where they are hopeful they can eventually get some acreage. Coyote Hill Foster Care Services provide a stable home, access to therapy, independent living & vocational skills, and resource connections. Kyle Peek is all too familiar with what young people needing foster care are going through. All staff are trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention. "TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection."

Clint Rogers was led to Dr. Naram and led to spend 10 years documenting his work. It was a mythical journey. Many have seen Clint's TEDtalk and now have his book, Ancient Secrets of a Master Healer. Clint and I developed a relationship in our first interview and the subsequent Zoom calls during the rest of 2020 that he called the Miracle Experiment Game. The opening anonymous quote in the book says, "I didn't come to teach you. I came to love you. Love will teach you." You will feel the love in this interview and in the book. You don't want to miss it.

Michael Cochran refers to himself as a "retired wild man" (see Robert Bly's Iron John). Infinite possibilities lead to limited possibilities on their way to probabilities unless we are guided by an unseen hand. We didn't talk about any of that, but it applies. The youngest of 3 brothers growing up in West Plains MO listening to Chet Atkins on the radio inspired them to take up guitar playing and then to drive to Nashville to meet him. He met performing musician Lee Ruth in a freshman astronomy class at Mizzou in '62. Forest ranger service and catching a radio ad led to years in radio broadcasting (KFRU and KGBX). 200 good friends showed up for his 70th birthday party in Boonville. Just enjoy listening! 

Daren Dean has an eye on and ear for the everyday lives of working class folks. Some of his favorite authors write in the "grit" style. Put those together and you get stories and novels that are familiar to small town America. Then you add his research into the Civil War as it occurred in Missouri and you get an historic reality novel, The Black Harvest. Daren is not big on making sure his students have everything grammatically correct in their assignments. In his Lincoln University classes, he's interested in their creativity and ability to tell a story. Grammar can be fixed later.

We met first at Wattle Hollow Retreat Center for a Creativity Workshop with Jack Williams and Kelly and Donna Mullholland (Still on the Hill). That led to this interview and our purchase of her CDs. Piano, organ and guitar are some of her instruments. Birds are part of her inspiration. Carl Sagan inspired one of her songs that she shared at the retreat. She attends music festivals and has won awards. 

George Dillard and his wife have chosen to live out in the woods in a house they built by a pond (not Walden). George is a contemplative reader who engages with nature around him. He values friendships, family, and exploring ideas that bring us closer to reality. HIs last library job was with Missouri River Regional Library in Jefferson City, MO. He created book and movie discussion events that he facilitated and garnered quite a loyal following. Now retired, you might find him in town chatting with a weekly coffee group. A gentle soul, in word and deed.
