Sara Flygar is a UX Researcher at HiQ, and Supervisory Board Member at the non-profit organisation Project Vita. This interview is recorded in Mozambique, January 2023 - and at that time Sara was the Chairman of the Board, today she is the designer and supervisory board member. Hear her talk about her roll in the organisation and how she got involved in the first place.
Sara was in her fifth year of the Design and Product Development Programme at KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology) when she undertook her final-year project as an MFS* in Mozambique (source: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saraflygar/ and https://www.kth.se/student/studier/utlandsstudier/fieldstudies/reseberattelser/nyhetsarkiv-field-st/intervju-med-sara-flygar-mfs-i-mocambique-1.1467968).
*MFS=Minor Field Study, which is a Swedish scholarship program for university students to do research abroad. It is mentioned in the interview that the MFS scholarship was cancelled from 2023. In January 2023, it was announced that the program would be discontinued in its previous format because the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) decided to step down from managing it. However, the Sida*-funded scholarship is now taken over by Stockholm University as the official national program office coordinating the scholarship across Swedish universities.
*Sida=The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. “Sida is a government agency working to create better living conditions for people living in poverty and under oppression” (sida.se/en).

You sometimes hear about charity projects that doesn’t quite reach all the way; Perhaps an organisation that helps out directly after a natural disaster and then leaves – moving on to the next place that needs urgent relief. But if something then breaks, there is no local ownership and no one to handle the issue – leaving the situation to its destiny.
Join today’s journey to a remote coastal village in rural Mozambique, to look behind the curtain of the non-profit organisation Project Vita – that operates in a different way to traditional aid projects.
