Be honest… how many times have you picked up your phone today?
And before you say, “Not that many,” go check your screen time.; I’ll wait!
In this episode, Angel gets real about our relationship with our phones and social media—and why sometimes we just need to put the phone down and walk away.
After hearing her public speaking students talk about the effects of social media semester after semester, Angel found herself taking another social media break , and every time she does, she notices something: she actually feels better.
From checking your phone hundreds of times a day, to getting sucked into the never-ending social media rabbit hole, to scrolling when you're bored and suddenly realizing 30 minutes have disappeared… we've all been there.
Angel talks about how doom scrolling and social media can affect the way we feel, how comparison can sneak in, and why it's important to pay attention to how you feel after spending time online.
She also shares some simple things that have helped her with taking intentional breaks from social media.
Angel goes from social media fasts to pagers, staying up all night talking on the phone, and running home from school to check messages.
Because apparently, we millennials have been attached to our phones since before smartphones even existed.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is simply disconnect for a little while.
