The sour wine was what the soldiers drank while they were waiting for the person to die.

Jesus receiving the sour wine fulfilled scripture.

“My strength is dried up like baked clay; my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You put me into the dust of death.”

Finished -Before Jesus there had to be a priest to atone for the sin. Jesus was the final atonement for all of our sins. 

The system ended with Jesus. He paid in FULL. The full penalty for our sins which was death. The veil was torn giving us access to him both now and forever.

He bowed- He humbled himself to the point of death. Laid down his life on His own. 

.

“No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.””

‭‭John‬ ‭10:18‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Laid it down for His friends-

“No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭CSB‬‬

.

He gave up His spirit- submitted himself to death willingly?.

.

“Therefore I will give him the many as a portion, and he will receive the mighty as spoil, because he willingly submitted to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet he bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53:12‬ ‭CSB‬‬

.

He entrusted Himself to the father.

.

“Into your hand I entrust my spirit; you have redeemed me, Lord, God of truth.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭31:5‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Digest ?

Have you accepted Jesus? Do you realize the price He paid so that you can be free and live in eternity? Have you entrusted your spirit to the Lord?

Truly-firm,faithful,surely, absolute trust,confidence

Jesus said “Truly, I tell you” many times in the gospels.

Paul in 2 Corinthians spoke about being caught up to the third heaven-which is the dwelling place of God. He called it paradise 

.

“was caught up into paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a human being is not allowed to speak.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:4‬ ‭CSB‬‬

.

“Then we who are still alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭CSB‬‬

What is paradise? The king’s garden. A place of happiness and rest. The place of the glorified spirits. The place where God lives.

.

How do we get to Paradise?

.

Be like the criminal. Respect God. Know Jesus. Confess your sin. Call upon the name of the Lord. Believe and Ask Jesus into your life. 

.

There was a deathbed conversion. It’s never too late until it’s too late. 

.

The reward for him was heaven and it was immediate. Jesus said “Today”

.

The criminal said “Remember me”...Jesus said “You will be with me”

The criminal knew the awaited kingdom..Jesus promised him paradise.

.

Jesus gives paradise. Jesus is the only way to get to paradise.

 

““Let anyone who has ears to hear listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭CSB‬‬

The Prayer Request 

“Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided his clothes and cast lots.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:34‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Jesus is already on the cross with the 2 criminals beside him. He asks the Father to forgive his murderers. They were busy dividing his clothes and casting lots. He was interceding for them that they might be saved.

.

Forgive-to send away, to let go, depart

Jesus prayed out loud- Do you struggle with praying out loud?

There was no quiet place, no away spot 

.

His intercession was a fulfillment of scripture

He knew that His enemies were blind. He prayed for their twisted ignorant minds.

“A man is praised for his insight, but a twisted mind is despised.”

“Come to your senses and stop sinning; for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:34‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Forgiveness is the beginning of the life of the soul with God.

The Answered Prayer 

.

God answered the prayer because through the death of Jesus was the wash of forgiveness of sin and salvation to His murders and the whole world.

The centurion eyes and mind was open. 

.

“So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.”

‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:41‬ ‭CSB‬‬

.

“But many of those who heard the message believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.”

‭‭Acts‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Rescued from Wrath 

“and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead — Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.”

Hope for Eternal life

“so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.”

The Example 

He interceded while dying, in suffering, in pain. Nothing should keep us from praying not even impending death

Forgive and Pray

“bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes.”

Before your worship, your must wash. 

 

“Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?”

“Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭24:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s my hands... what have I done ?

The sin on our hands keeps us a distance from a God. 

Are you and God social distancing?

 

Drawing near brings conviction 

 

Washing your hands reminds you  to remove evil from your heart. 

 

You wash by repentance 

“When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims. Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.”

“Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.”

God will take you back.

The parable of the lost son teaches us that God wants a relationship with us. He wants us to have eternal wealth.

.

“The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.”

‭v.12

 

We like the son in this parable are wasteful. We are in a time of famine and chaos in our land and it's time to stop starving for attention, money and power, success relationships etc 

.

He got so hungry that pig food looked good.

We can't keep looking at what is pleasing to the eyes and the stomach. 

Even when it's something we know we shouldn’t have. 

What sin is looking good to you right now? and you know its pig food?

 

We must come to our senses v17 He remembers that there was an abundance back at the house.

We can go to the Father knowing the he promises blessing from obedience and there is no lack with God 

 

Humility is necessary. He recognized his sin and wanted to be a servant. He wanted a position in the house of God. 

Do you want a position in the kingdom of God 

 

V20. He returned back to his father after he decided that he was ready to admit his wrong v18

 

And the Father was waiting and watching 

He saw him coming 

The father was filled with love and compassion. 

He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.

V21 The son did what he had determined in his heart to do 

The father responds with a party 

You must see something is wrong

Makarios-When a person is blessed by God, he is approved by God.

The spirit of God rest on the persecuted

The Kingdom of Heaven belongs to the persecuted

The persecuted must pray for those who persecute them

The persecuted will suffer for the Godly life.

A peacemaker is a mediator, promotes harmony, resolves conflict between estranged parties

A peacemaker identifies truth, addresses sin, and constructs a bridge between two parties.

A peacemaker is a son of God because He is the Peacemaker, who sent His son to identify the truth, address our sin and construct a bridge for us to God to make peace with Him.

Peacemakers must have peace with God

No one can make peace until he has found peace ..Peace with God.

.

First you must have a pure heart in order to promote peace.

How can you not be right with God and promote peace?

 

Peacemakers are led by God’s Spirit

“For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons.”

Peacemakers want peace with all men.

“If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

“so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

Purity starts in the heart. Your mind and heart must be right to be in the right relationship with God.

Only those whose hearts are right have access to God.

Because we expect to see Him, we must keep ourselves pure

To keep pure means to keep morally straight, free from the corruption of sin

Peace, Purity, and Holiness 

“Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If you want to see God you have get rid of sin and obey God.

A pure heart endures to the end. He promises we will see His face.

.

“And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭22:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Content, sheltered by God’s promises.

Forgiving and compassionate spirit

Imitate God’s goodness and mercy.

 To receive mercy is to get what you deserve, to receive pity instead of just condemnation.

When you are guilty, mercy removes the misery you ought to receive.

 .                      

“Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’”

You fellow servant, owes you little compared to what you owe God?

.

If you fail to give mercy you will fail to receive mercy from God?

“For judgment is without mercy to the one who has not shown mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

Hunger-to be hungry, to be needy, crave, seek with eager desire 

Thirst -suffer, thirst for a long time,wanting a soul refresh 

Filled-but longing for more. 

.

You have to have the right spiritual appetite. 

As we sit in our homes, not able to go to fine dining or local restaurants, it's causing us to make meals at home that suit our appetite.

But do you have an appetite for the Lord? Are you craving the things of Christ?

While we are near our snacks during this time, we should feast on the Word of God. Jesus and chips!

““You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

You have to know the food source.

““Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the water; and you without silver, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without silver and without cost! Why do you spend silver on what is not food, and your wages on what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and you will enjoy the choicest of foods.”

Come everyone -it's free food

You can’t purchase it because it's free. Something your money can't buy 

Jesus offers free salvation as a gift to anyone and everyone who is thirsty and wants to come. 

Eat what is good. He is good. Taste and see 

.

What do I hunger for?

Power, success, relationships, comfort, happiness 

What is my source when I am hungry ?

Am I spiritually malnourished? What nutrients do I need to add to my diet? More Word, more prayer, more worship?
