How to walk 

Destination: Point your life in the direction of God’s will 

Dependence: All your weight walking one foot in front of the other. Dependent on God's power

Dedication-keep stepping, calling on God to help you.

When starting to walk as a baby. You will waddle, fall, pull yourself up on something, and try it again. Until one day you are running. 

Your faith walk is the same. You will be tempted to waddle and fall back into your old patterns of life. But you will reach out your hand for the Father and he will pull you up because one day at the end you will be running full speed into the arms of Jesus.

Jesus has the authority to heal physically and spiritually 

 

•  The faith of your friends matters..Some men brought to him Jesus saw their faith

 

Who are your faith friends?

 

There was a physical healing and a spiritual healing “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

• Before Jesus healed the man physically he healed him spiritually 

• Sometimes our spiritual states affects our physical/emotional state. 

 

The teachers of the law said to themselves so they didn’t say it out loud. And Jesus who knows our thoughts asked them  “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 

 

What does your thought life look like?

• Jesus has the authority to forgive sins 
• But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”

Healing fills people with awe and praise

•  When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.

Where do you need to seek healing emotionally, spiritually, and physically?

Jesus has the authority to heal on the Sabbath  Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath

• Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 

• a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. 

• She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 

• When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 

•  Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

• Jesus saw her and called her. He knows the position we are standing in, bent over in, laid out no matter what. And he spoke healing over her with his word. YOU ARE SET FREE from your infirmity. 

• You can be free sis. What is it that you need to be FREE from?

• After he spoke the healing with His Word he touched. The Word of God is not bound once it was spoken she was healed. 

• Her response was to praise God 

• After 18 years of being bent out of shape with her head slumped over to the ground she could look up she could see. Her life was a ground level and now by the grace of the healing Father, she was God level. She could lift her eyes to her helper the maker of heaven and earth. 

• So the synagogue leaders were big mad because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath 
• Jesus called them hypocrites! And said your animals can get water. But this woman can't get freedom from what Satan has kept bound in for 18 years

CSB-disabled by a spirit. The Word also said she was bound for 18 years. Satan had placed a demonic attack on her life. 

Jesus called this woman, a daughter of Abraham. She was a member of the covenant and its promises 

Hebrews 2:16b……Helps Abraham’s offspring. 

This was the mic drop moment because after that they were humiliated

I like how the Word uses the opponents. They were against him. 

But the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing. 

When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.

 

We see Jesus in both these people's lives…Change their position one was lying on a stretcher and the other one was bent over.

We see both of these people had spiritual aliments -because there was sin that needed to be forgiven in the man first and a spirit to be delivered from in the woman 

We we that the scribe and synagogue leaders could not see Jesus for who He really was. The Son of Man. The one with authority. 

We see the response of the people. Awestruck and praising God and filled with delight

Real friends carry you to Jesus. Whether it's a sin or sickness. A burden or a birth. Grief or great Joy. They are willing to lower you through the roof of your circumstances and into the presence of the true healer. Jehovah Rapha

The Word

• In the beginning was the Word. Jesus was here in the beginning 

• He was with God 

• The Word was God. Jesus is God in the human flesh 

 

The Creation

•  All things were created through him 

• Apart from him not one thing was created 

 

 

The Life 

• Life is found in him

• Life was the light of men 

 

The Light

• Shine in the darkness 

• Darkness can’t overcome it

• True light gives light to everyone coming into the world 

• The world did not recognize him 

• Not received by his own people 

 

The Man who testified 

 

• A man named John 

• Sent by God 

• Witness to testify about the light 

• So that ALL might believe through him.

• He wasn't the light but testified about the light

• We are to reflect his light

 

The Children of God

• Those who receive him 

• Right to be called of God 

• Those who believe in his name 

• Born again not of natural descent spiritual new birth 

 

The World became flesh 

• Became flesh and dwelt among us 

• Observed his glory 

• The one and only son of God

• Full of grace and truth 

• John testified that Jesus ranked about him and existed before him, 

• We received grace upon grace from his fullness 

• Moses gave the law Jesus gave grace and truth 

• No one has seen God but Jesus was revealed 

 

An unseen God became a seen God in Christ. An untouchable God became touchable in Christ. 

Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.  Martin Luther King

The King was born. 

 

 

We see the fulfillment of the things we have been reading for the past two weeks. That the Messiah was coming. We have this access to Him that is eternal.

But I want to look at the Shepherds

They were watching. We need to watching the world around us. Being woke.

Keeping our flock covered.

Seeking God’s Word for the good news Daily.

Praise should be our weapon in these times. 

The Shepherds heard the word and then they sought out to see truth for themselves. 

We may receive the Word from many different sources with today’s access but make sure that go to seek out the Truth for yourself (Acts 17:11)

And then they spread the good news. We need to spread this good news.

The next announcement of the angels will be with the coming of the king 

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Matthew 25:31-33

Jer 23:1-6

Sorrow for the Shepherds

• The Shepherds had destroyed and scattered the one they were to care for.

• Instead of caring for God’s flock and leading them to safety they had deserted and driven them to destruction so now the Lord was going to pour out judgment on the shepherd for the evil they had done.

We are accountable to the people, things and resources that the Lord has put in our influence and we are to shepherd them well.

Remembering the Remnant 

• I will bring them back into their own..sheepfold. 

• They will be fruitful and increase in number 

• I will appoint responsible shepherds who will care for them and they will never be afraid again. No one will be lost or missing 

God had exiled and scattered them because they were disobedient. But he promised to bring them back and he would and they will be blessed and fruitful. They would no longer be under ungodly leadership. God would put them under Godly leaders.

 

Raising a Righteous King

• The Lord said he would raise up a righteous descendant from the line of David

• A King who rules with wisdom 

• He will do what is just and right throughout the land

Giving him a Righteous Name

• Yahweh Tsidqenu YThe Lord is our Righteousness

• Judah will be saved 

• Israel will live in safety 

Because he is our righteousness. 

1 Cor 1:20 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

2 Corin 5: 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Righteousness- living right with God. The only way we live right with God is to first be right with God through our salvation in Christ. 

Wrongness is the opposite. So we either see our wrong and seek his righteousness or we stay on the wrong side.

 

Revealing the King 

Isaiah 9:6-7 Then we go to Isaiah’s prophecy of Jesus to see who is this King who will rule with justice and righteousness 

 

•  A child is born to us He would be born of a mother Mary

• A son is given to us. He would be the Son of God He had to be given. For God so loved the world HE GAVE 

• The government will rest on his shoulders. 

• He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
      Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

• His government and its peace
      will never end.

• He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David
      for all eternity.

• The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies
      will make this happen!

 

Zechariah Prophecy 

He is coming 

 

Tells the people to look and rejoice because the King is coming to you 

He is righteous

He is Victorious 

He is humble -riding on a donkey (fulfilled when he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey before his crucifixion for our sins. When he returns he will enter Jerusalem again as the King

He would remove the battle chariots from Israel and warhorses from Jerusalem

He would destroy all the weapons used in battle 

Your King will bring peace to the nations stretching from sea to sea and the ends of the earth. 

Verse 9 was referring to his 1st coming and verse 10 his second coming. Zechariah prophecy was fulfilled. We know he coming soon so we must be prepared 

 The Digest 

Who are you accountable for. Who are you called to shepherd?

Knowing the even though we sin, God comes back to redeem. How does that help heal your past. 

What does righteousness look like in your daily life?

What name of God are you meditating on right now?

God continues to show his mercy and desire for obedience

 

God showed his mercy 

• In Egypt 
• In the wilderness
• With the next generation 

They still disobeyed so he gave his consequence --that would not lead to life. They would pollute themselves and sacrifice their children so that they might be devasted and be reminded that he alone is the Lord.

God desired obedience. He said that obedience would have given them life. 

They kept reattaching themselves to idols.

God sent Jeremiah to warn his people to turn back to him. They failed to listen so God in his justice had to act. Because all sin has to be confronted.

• Samuels sons didn't follow his ways. They accepted bribes and perverted justice while they were serving at Beersheba.

• So the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel asking for a king because of three reasons. Samuel was geting old. His sons don’t follow his ways. And they wanted a king because the other nations had one. 

• Asking for a king displeased Samuel and he prayed and the Lord answered. It's not you that they are rejecting it's me that they are rejecting as their king. They have been doing this since I brought them from Egypt. They forsaked him and served other gods. 

• Listen to them and warn them 

• The king would reign over them and will claim as his rights. 

• Samuel tells the people the words of the Lord. 

What the king will claim as his rights.. HE WILL TAKE 

• He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 

• He will be assigned to be commander of thousands and commanders of fifties

• Plow his ground and reap his harvest

• Some to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 

• He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.

• He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 

• He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 

• Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. 

• He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 

• When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

Refused to listen and get with you want   The people refused to listen to Samuel. Nope even after hearing how much they would lose they still wanted to gain a king because they desired to look like the other nations     “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”

So the Lord gave them what the wanted. They went home in anticipation of their new king

 

What can we learn from this… 

• Desiring something to have lordship over you will destroy you and they were getting ready to soon find that out. The Scriptures... that would cry out. 

• When someone or something has lordship over it controls you. Where you work, how you work, your family, your food, your finances 

• Having someone control you doesn't allow God room. The Word says we can't serve two masters. You will love one and hate the other. 

• It would be impossible for them to serve this king they requested and serve the Lord God and the same thing is true for us

• Sometimes God will let us fail to allow his to see Him in a deeper way. 

• They wanted something tangible. A king they could see. Faith in our King Jesus is unseen. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29b

• They wanted to match the other nations. Trying to be like this world and match what they offer will just let in these verses. Something is going to get taken and you will lose something or someone. 

 

Who is the “king” in your life? 

Are you desiring lordship of something other than Christ?

Do you think it will gain you something?

Have you considered the cost?

Generational faith or Generational death 

• The generations had died now this generation didn’t know the Lord or what he had done for Israel.  

It seems like in the past couple of readings we have seen a theme of not following idols and teaching your children. Here we see that they failed to teach their children so their faith wasn’t passed on. If we don’t teach our children how will they have an impact on society?

We need to take this very seriously. We can’t wait for the school system the church, sunday school or youth groups  to teach our children.  

Moses told them they needed to tell the children. They didn't even know the deliverance of Eygpt/slavery 

Romans 10:14 How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher?

How do we expect our children to call on him? If they don’t see us call on him 

How do we expect them to hear about Him? If we not talk or expose them to the gospel truth?

One day we will be gone, and our children will be the next generation how will they tell your grandchildren?

 

 

• They did evil in the eyes of the Lord 

• They served the Baals

Baal idol of the Canaanites-god of fertility. Idol as we learned earlier this week any person place thing or thought that you look to as your source, meaning, provision, deliverance and fulfillment 

Forsaking God vs Following God 

• They forsook the Lord 

• They followed and worshiped various gods of the people around them

They let the gods of the people around them affect them instead them affecting the people around with the one true living God. So this shows how easily it is to be influenced by the world around us even when we know God. We must be woke in this sleeping generation who have abandoned God and canceled his Holy word. The Word is rubbing off and influencing our children with a great agenda. But our God says in His Word that he has a future and hope for our children. So we must tell them about God and live it out alongside them so that they will stand in this dark world and be the light 

 

• The Lord was angry because they had forsaken him and served Baal

• So he handed them to their enemies and his hand was against them to defeat just as he had told them. They were in great distress 

They had forsaken God so he removed his hand and the disaster came to them via the enemy. God was working against them. That might seem harse but God is just and jealous. He desires our whole heart not half. Its like you abandoned me and it hurts. They were stressed out. 

God aganist you vs God for you 

If God is against you, it doesnt matter what you have going for you. And if God is for you, it doesn’t matter Who is against you. -Tony Evans 

• Then The Lord raised judges to save them from the raiders

• Even then they would not listen to their judges but instead prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. Turning from the ways of their ancestors who were obedient to the Lord’s commands

• The Lord raised up judges for them. He would be with that judge and save them as long as the judge lived. 

• The Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them

Even when we reject and abandon God he can't abandon us, because of his character. He heard when they cried out and sent the judges to defeat the enemy, the judges would die and they would return to idols.

• As soon as the judge died, the people returned to their ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, back to following, serving, and worshiping other gods. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways 

This make me think about when some people get into a dying situation, they call on him for help promising to serve and surrender, and as soon as he delivers them they go right back to the old life.

• How will you pass down a generational faith?

• In what ways can you protect your faith while being surrounded with people who are against our God?

• Who are you truly following? What idols do you need to remove?

• Seeing that this is a cycle and pattern in the biblical culture that is still prevalent in our culture, what steps can you take to break the spiritual curse of abandoning God in your sphere of influence?
