We are Glossonauts, the online community of young linguists who make Greek viral in social media.
In this live session, we are focusing on how important language learning is and what it really means to learn a language? Is it the grammar, is it the vocabulary is it the culture? To answer those questions, we have a special guest, a diplomat! We believe that the profession of the diplomat is more closely related to language learning and cultural awareness than perhaps any other profession.
Our guest, Susanna Terstal, is the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Greece since 2021. Susanna studied in the Netherlands, the United States and Italy. She is a lawyer and has a master’s in political science, International Relations and Italian language and literature. She joined the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994 and began her career in the legal directorate where she held different positions. Before working in the Ministry, she worked in the private sector. From September 2018 until April 2021, she was the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process. Before becoming an ambassador, she was the Deputy Head of mission in Geneva.
Believe me she is not the stereotypical diplomat sitting in her office, reading newspapers and drinking coffee (although she likes Greek freddo espresso sketo -no sugar - a lot!). She and her team initiated the Orange Grove supporting early stage founders!
