There always exist "reasons," caused by things beyond our control, for why you shouldn't invest. Or reasons you should take your money out of the market. But those reasons are usually short-term, or flat-out ignorant. Have a plan, stick to your plan, and don't worry about the things you can't control.

Not totally meaningless, but focusing on or talking about your "annual return" won't do much for you as an individual. Something I think is valuable is to think about your investments in terms of decades, not in terms of days, weeks, months, or even years.
