If you are the spouse of someone entangled with porn you know exactly what I’m talking about. He always has an answer doesn’t he? In this trigger and stage, we justify what we just did. In other words we try to convince other people how acting out in sin - looking at pornography - is a good idea.

Over the past several days we learned what happens when I choose to act out by looking at pornography. But what happens now?

Usually we feel guilty, and we don’t want to be around people. People make us grumpy, right? Have you ever wondered why you feel this way after acting out? It’s not just you. It’s a very real issue that we all experience when we choose to engage in sexual sin.

Have you ever noticed that a lot of books that deal with bad habits or addiction start with the actual behavior of acting out? A lot of this material seems to be about control. It teaches how to manage sin.

But that’s not possible. I don’t get it. We’re human. Which means were not perfect….which of course means we’re sinners who desperately need our Savior, Jesus Christ. And that’s why I will always teach on the unmanageability of sin.

In today’s podcast, we finish the lesson we started yesterday on Acting Out in Sin. This is the actual behavior of the sin itself. It could be viewing pornography, having an emotional or physical affair, hiring a prostitute, etc.

Yesterday, we finished the lesson on hiding - hiding in our sin and hiding from our sin. Today, we begin a new two part lesson on the consequences of acting out in sin. This is the actual viewing of pornography, engaging in masturbation, going to an adult cabaret, hiring a prostitute, etc. It’s the actual sinful and rebellious behavior.

Just what are the ramifications when I choose to keep looking at pornography over years and decades? Well, there are many, but God loves you too much to not discipline you in this area.

Why does He discipline? Because pornography is a cheap physical substitute for the emotional and spiritual intimacy that He wants you to truly experience.

Did you know that there are several different ways that we hide when we’re involved in pornography or some other from of sexual sin?

It’s been my experience that nothing good rarely comes out of hiding from something that we know is wrong or immoral. One way that we hide is by lying and trying to cover up our sin….which only leads to more sin. We may not see the immediate ramifications, but you can bank on the fact that they’re coming.

Unfortunately, hiding and lying tend to be our first response. We don’t want to come clean. We want to protect ourselves, and for many of us we’ll go to great lengths to do so. These unbelievably elaborate lies, that we actually believe ourselves! But when other people don’t believe us, well, the lying then leads to anger and around and around the spiral of sin we go.
