Success in your body shape change or lifestyle change journey is not so much about the setting of big lofty goals but of your habits goals, that routine or those rituals you do every day to get there.
Habits. But also choices and working towards how you OWN each day.
And then when it comes to rest & recovery- these habits, this routine is even more important.
Let’s share with you some stats:
Recovery is just as important as the workouts themselves and recovery isn’t just about NOT doing. It is about looking after your body that is now moving more and has greater demands on it. And ultimately, will prevent injuries.
Getting injured is never fun, but it’s even more annoying when you’ve just started a new workout or lifestyle plan.

What to do if you used to train 3-4 times a week, something happened and you 'fell off'.
This episode is about mojo, well move about losing it and having it!
The weird thing about mojo is that we think it is some mystical force or energy that suddenly makes us motivated to do something.
And this is not the case.
So in today's episode we are going to be talking about motivation, goals, measuring progress, failure and my favourite concept of "Bouncebackability".

What is the Wonder Woman Mindset and why it is the determining factor in the success or failure when achieving your goals?
For those that don’t know me so well, I am obsessed with superheroes and strong female characters – in movies, books, real life.
I have always been obsessed with SUPERHEROS and not just as a kid.
There is just something about their certainty, their journey, their uniqueness.
Their overall ‘bad ass ness’.
The Gods & Goddesses in ancient times to superheroes on comic book pages fill me with a sense of wonder, yearning and dreaming.
Of asking ‘What if’ and ‘Could I’?
But even superheros have a weakness.
Their alter ego.
Their humanity, their ‘cover’- that fake image they put out into the world.
We strive to fit in, to look the part, not rock the boat, to not offend or be offended. To be quiet and be beautiful. To not get found out.
My life hasn’t been what you probably think it has, we all have our struggles. I wasn’t always this sure, this confident or strong. Constantly second guessing myself, plagued with self doubt, no sense of self worth.
Honestly I felt frumpy, anxious, pudgey and lost.
But I was always opinionated. I see myself as a feminist yes but also a humanitarian. I was always sensitive and empathetic to what is going on in the world..
My real super powers.
My inner warrior strength, my compassion, my ‘fight’ for justice and wanting to save the world and that voice inside telling me I was made for more.
Although a part of me believed my conditioning that a skinny, smooth and wrinkle free body was worth more or that I had to look a certain way to attract a partner to procreate and in believing this all my inner strength would crumble as I look outside of myself for love, validation and acceptance.
We hear that inner calling telling us to ‘step up and be our best selves’’ but we ignore it for fear of judgement, fear of our truest selves and of the world seeing who we really are.
To putting ourselves out there to get hurt, to be disappointed and to fall flat on our face.
Wonderwoman is REAL- Wonder Woman is a mindset.
Mindset is 100% of your body shape change, lifestyle or life changing efforts. You cannot set and achieve goals without working on your mindset first. Yet very few programmes talk about it.
Very few programmes have a qualified life coach that become a nutritional advisor, health coach and then kettlebell instructor.
Most women just want to feel better and feel strong and in control and I find when you focus on strong- everything else takes care of itself.

Whilst hunger is the instinct of survival that drives us to feed when the body requires food, appetite is the feeling that we need to eat that is influenced by psychological aspects of the individual concerned (desire to eat for pleasure, happiness, boredom, sadness, anxiety etc)
Hunger is the need to eat.
If you're hungry, you need food because your body is telling you so. It's sending yousignals, like those rumbling stomach growls known as hunger pangs. Hunger cannot be controlled; it is instinctive. And for some individuals, ignoring hunger can cause serious consequences.
Appetite is the desire to eat food, sometimes due to hunger. Appealing foods can stimulate appetite even when hunger is absent, although appetite can be greatly reduced by satiety. Appetite exists in all higher life-forms, and serves to regulate adequate energy intake to maintain metabolic needs.
Signs of decreased appetite include not wanting to eat, unintentional weight loss, and not feeling hungry. The idea of eating food may make you feel nauseous, as if youmight vomit after eating. Long-term loss of appetite is also known as anorexia, which can have a medical or psychological cause.
Hunger is the need to eat.
If you're hungry, you need food because your body is telling you so. It's sending you signals, like those rumbling stomach growls known as hunger pangs. Hunger cannot be controlled; it is instinctive. And for some individuals, ignoring hunger can cause serious consequences. Waiting too long to eat once hunger kicks in may mean the risk of low blood sugar and the wooziness and fatigue that come with it.
- This is a function hard wired into your body for survival.
- It is the red light on the dashboard that your body needs something
Appetite is the desire to eat. Appetite occurs as a coordinated effort between your brain and your belly. When you feast your eyes on a delicious, delectable food, your mouth may water, and you can practically taste it and feel the textures on your palate. Even the mere thought of food can elicit the same emotional response. But unlike hunger, appetite can be ignored.
Appetite itself is a good thing.
Having a healthy appetite means that you will likely get the nutrients you need.
- It is your body signalling that your metabolism has greater needs for fuel, that it is functioning well
- It can also be a metaphore for lust for life – feeling alive, have a great appetite for life.
- Sexual apetitie

Why carbs are not the enemy. Let's talk Low Carb Diets...
That said, there are positive about the Keto Diet, I like how Keto motivates people into eating less processed food but when you take out a whole macronutrient for long term, in my experience of my female clients I see side effects like major headaches, migraines, brain fog, lack of energy, grumpiness, irritability, constipation, bloatedness, skin issues etc.
So if your goal is to lose weight to make yourself feel more confident and sexy and you’re getting these side effects, are you really achieving what you want to achieve?
I mean, I don’t feel confident, happy or sexy when I am constipated or have a headache!

I never fail to be surprised by how much misunderstanding and trepidation surround working out.
People who have not yet committed to a regular exercise routine have the general perception that you have to kill yourself to get in shape.
In the 1970s, Jane Fonda popularized the phrase “No pain, no gain,” and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where all these misconceptions started.
What’s sad is that this perspective keeps so many away from regular exercise; given how daunting it all seems, is it any surprise that people turn to diets instead?
That’s unfortunate, because diets alone are quite useless. That may sound like an overstatement, but it’s not. The truth is that regular exercise is essential to maintaining a trim and healthy physique.
There is no way around it.
Make no mistake, exercise does take dedicated work on your part, but it doesn’t require you to sacrifice all of your time and energy.
My clients are always stunned at just how little they have to exercise to achieve real and lasting results.
In fact, from the 4 minute workout and then building up to 20-30 minute workouts 3 times a week is all you will need.
The hour long high intensity workout isn’t necessary- in fact it’s dangerous and also just choosing to download workouts here and there can seriously impact your thyroid.
Do as much as it necessary- not as is possible.
When you decide to choose group based exercise as your exercise option you are giving away your power. It's time to take back control with these simple suggestions in this week's podcast to make sure you are getting the most out of every minute of your workouts for a meaningful training practice.

To truly understand how this works for women over 40, you must first understand Body Shape Change.
Whereas weight loss is about the reduction of mass i.e. how much you weigh on the scale.
Body Shape Change focuses on the shape of the body, the curves, the leaning out of your midsection and to dewobble your wobbly bits!
You see, you cannot ‘tone’ a muscle. You are either building that lean muscle to fill out your shape, boost your metabolism and burn that fat , or you are not.
You cannot turn fat into muscle. You must grow it.
The increase of muscle mass is a long and slow pro- cess and cannot be stumbled upon.
That’s to say you will not bulk up just because you are swinging a kettlebell.
When you lose weight, you become smaller and often skinnier, and weight comes off places you cannot deter- mine.
When you focus on building lean muscle you become strong, lean and curvy and more likely to burn that stub- born fat sticking to places it never used to stick to (belly, hips, back).
But just as the way you exercise is different for building lean muscle and burning fat (two different types of train- ing), the way you EAT is different for both processes too.
The amount of calories is important but so is the macro content of that food i.e. protein, carbs and fat.
There needs to be a balance or a proportion of how you consume each of these to reach your body goals.
Carbohydrates are simply one of the macronutrients you need to fuel your body. Along with proteins, fats and
How does it work? Yup, here comes the science.
The concept of cycling your carbohydrates is simply about eating more of less carbs on given days based on your level of activity and needs of your body for fuel and for building lean muscle.

Goddess Got Goals is a podcast for women in midlife who feel tired of pushing, pretending, and holding it all together — and know, deep down, that something is ready to…
Hosted by Lisa Barwise, Wellness Alchemist and author of Unarmoured, this show explores what it really means to soften, heal, and return to yourself after years of over-giving, people-pleasing, and carrying invisible armour. Through honest personal stories, nervous system wisdom, energy psychology, sacred strength, and practical magic, each episode invites you to stop fighting your body and start listening to it.
This isn’t about discipline, reinvention, or becoming someone new.
It’s about safety before strength, compassion before consistency, and learning how to live — and lead — from a regulated, embodied place.
This is the Warrior Goddess SAGA.
Not the rise before the fall — but the rise after you come home to yourself.
Because Goddess Got Goals.
