It was not until after preaching this sermon on Sunday that I learned that one of our outstanding deacons here at Chouteau Hills – a wonderful Christian brother with a heart after God and who works relentlessly with our youth, Kirk Emerine - had, the previous week, posted the following comments on social media, which perfectly mirror and complement many of the contents of this particular lesson. Some of his posted comments were as follows:

PARENTS: It is your job to raise respectful children. Respectful of authority; that means you. If you let your child walk all over you without doing anything, they'll end up being selfish thugs I don’t care what ethnicity they are.

How do I know? Well, raised a 23-year-old and a 17-year-old that know how to treat people. They respect authority and challenge ignorance. Plus, having 27 years in education, I've seen a lot. Kids that respect their parents, don't talk back, and obey boundaries, are generally well behaved at school and get good grades. The opposite is quite true.

No magic secret to end bad relationships or end racism. ALL ethnicities, not just "white" people, need to respect others. When their behavior shows otherwise, then consequences are in order. If they act like a thug, they'll be treated as such regardless of ethnicity.

Respect and love. Parents: it’s up to you to change the course. You want an adult child that acts like a 2-year-old, do nothing. Then, when they're grown, they'll break the law, police will come, they'll throw a fit, and bad things can happen.
