“Hey Tim … how do we get started with Facility Budgeting?” I hear that a lot from pastors, XP’s, business admins, facility managers, and lay people. It is a universal concern. It is important to understand when you realize that the operation and care of our ministry facilities is almost always the second or third largest budget expenditure in a church budget. When you are budgeting for your facilities, there are four primary buckets that need to be considered.
The 4 Buckets include:
1. Operations – the day to day stuff
2. Deferred Maintenance – a growing epidemic in the church world
3. Capital Reserves – planning for the inevitable costs of capital replacement
4. Projects – new shiny stuff
