  • #93 From playing the game to speaking up: Creating spaces for queer black people with Josh Rivers

Josh Rivers is the creator and host of the award-winning podcast Busy Being Black, which centres on the lives and experiences of queer Black people from across the world.

Josh and I had hardly spoken since we were at university together, and we had a lot to catch up on. I've been admiring the important platform he is building for queer black people to feel seen, heard and loved.

In this episode we talk about black queer theory and magical realism, intentional language, how to be complicated, battling the intellectual and the physical, the very difficult journey towards self awareness and how to access the people put on your path to help you.

  • #92 Reading from Living Untethered by Michael A Singer: Beyond the human predicament

This episode is the second of a new format of readings from books which have come up as great sources of inspiration on Going Conscious.

I chose Living Untethered as it is the third book from Michael A Singer, and his first two books have been recommended and discussed time and time again. This new book just came out, and I couldn't wait to share it with you, especially after his second book, The Surrender Experiment, was my favourite book of 2021!

In this episode I read three short sections to you: Chapter 1 - Awareness of Self, Chapter 27 - The Paradigm Shift, and Chapter 38 - Exploring the Higher States.

I know that thousands of people now listen to Going Conscious each week, and I would love to hear from you about what you'd like to hear more of and what you think of our new reading format. Do you want to hear more readings? Please let me know through Instagram DMs @nikkitrott or by leaving your comments or favourite words as a review wherever you're listening.

I'd love to hear from you!

  • #91 From Vogue NY to baby food: Raising a healthy generation with Sophie Baron

Sophie is the Founder of UK based parent/baby digital startup Mamamade; supporting parents with modern childcare products and services that improve health outcomes, normalise taboos, and increase happiness. Originally from New York, Sophie came to the UK and after giving birth to her first daughter, began to juggle returning to work with caring for her baby. By 2019 Mamamade progressed from a 'side-hustle' and is now the fastest-growing baby food subscription company in the UK.

In this episode we talk about how Sophie felt lost after having her first child, the drive she has from being a mother, the personal work needed for building a business, raising 1.2 million dollars (as a woman), and how to get to the point people don't recognise.

  • #90 In case you missed it: Recap of sustainability in fashion on Going Conscious

In this episode we try a new format where we bring you the first parts of four episodes that centre around one topic so you can get reminded of some key points of inspiration, see what you want to go deeper into, and check out the interviews you may have missed.

This recap looks at how we can bring sustainability into fashion from various expert angles. We hear from the incredible Sophia Li who was my 2nd podcast guest and is an influential journalist and filmmaker using storytelling to impact climate and fashion. From Bandana Tewari who blew me away with her journey from Vogue India's editor to an advocate. We hear from the Felder Felder twin sisters Dani and Annette about their evolution from catwalk it-brand to bringing their values to the fore, and we touch on their journey with me at Conscious Accelerator, and we explore the future of sustainability and the role of fashion in planet regeneration with journalist and change-making powerhouse Rachel Arthur.

Overall, my main reflections are that we can't use buying more stuff as an excuse for being sustainable, but that fashion is an important part of culture and those who can create truly regenerative, transparent and circular models are the ones who will win. By bringing diversity and human kindness together with nurturing the planet, a new paradigm for fashion can be created.

Please let me know in a short review which episode, guest or takeaway grabs your attention, and I'll be reading some out as listener shout outs soon.

  • #87 Reading from A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle: The flowering of human consciousness

This episode is the first of a new format of readings from books which have been recommended to us and discussed on Going Conscious, and which I love and have been deeply moved by. The library on goingconscious.com is bursting with texts for us to explore, and we want to bring you some tasters from the mind expanding ideas they contain.

I chose A New Earth to be the first book for us to read together as this is one of the books that has most profoundly inspired me personally, and has been widely recommended by Going Conscious guests. The section I choose to share with you today is pertinently relevant to this time of turbulence and the opportunities we can grasp for our own transformation.

In this reading episode I share a short section of A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle which explores our inherited dysfunction, the arising of a new consciousness and the urgency of transformation.

I know that thousands of people now listen to Going Conscious each week, and I would love to hear from you about what you'd like to hear more of and what you think of our new reading format. Do you want to hear more readings? Please let me know through Instagram DMs @nikkitrott - I'd love to hear from you! And thank you for being here with me each week and sharing the discoveries we find here together that guide our paths of freedom and impact.

In this episode we talk about how Emma's body broke down to the point she couldn't walk, and how she had to find alternative ways of healing herself, which led her to discovering how to use dance and music as medicine.

We talk about why we should all dance to one song every day, how to reconnect with your physical body and move through trauma, how to feel freedom, and how to connect with your emotions but not be ruled by them.

She is also the chair of an independent board that scrutinises all 43 police forces across England and Wales on their commitment to develop an anti-racism action plan.

Abi is my old school friend, and in this episode we reflect on our journeys to purpose, and Abi's journey to becoming an advocate, a Quaker and a mother. • #84 Bonus: Mother and child 10 minute guided meditation with Nikki Trott

In this special episode Nikki guides you through a short meditation you can do with your baby or child, and then we discuss how motherhood itself can be the path to deepen our spirituality.

As a mother, you might find it challenging to keep up with a meditation practice. Nikki has found it hard to meditate for long as a new mother, so she created this meditation which you can do together with your baby or child and integrate into your life.

Just taking these few minutes, and accepting however they are to be for you today, will help you to ground into your body and your presence.

Mothers - you are doing the most important job to create a more conscious world. This practice is dedicated to all of you.

To connect with our children, we must first connect with ourselves.

Please come back to listen to this meditation again and again whenever it can support you, and share it as a little gift to friends who will benefit from it too.

This meditation is set to music using Alpha waves to help you enter a deeper meditative state, bringing you calm, mind-body integration and learning.
