On the second half of today’s Going in Circles we talk to Dean Towers aka racing Twitter hall of famer (1st ballot when we get around to having a racing Twitter HoF) @pullthepocket about the trouble with eliminations in harness racing and just about every other issue that we could fit in today! Was a great conversation that encompasses both breeds (sorry no QH’s). Hopefully people can undertake that all racing has a lot of the same issues and collaborating can only benefit all.

On tonight’s Big Monday Show we recap recent racing news including the death of star stallion Galileo and top owner and breeder Bert Firestone and Bob Baffert’s latest court appearance. We make our unhappiness known regarding the Monmouth Stewards seemingly being unprepared to handle a whipping incident even though it’s been the main topic of conversation in NJ racing for quite some time. In our second segment we take a look back at last weekends sparse stakes action including the Belmont Derby and Oaks, Victory Ride and the Delaware Handicap. We finish the show in segment three with a quick look ahead to Saratoga’s opening day card with two grade 3 stakes (The Quick Call and Schuylerville) and the Forbidden Apple on Friday.

On the second part of this weeks Going in Circles LIVE we talk to trainer, breeder and restaurateur Carlo Vaccarezza about how things are going for him since he relocated his operations to central Kentucky. On today’s Going in Circles LIVE we are joined by 2x Eclipse winning writer and author John Scheinman to talk about his first novella Bal Harbour Blues. The book is a horse racing story set in 1991 south Florida complete with colorful figures, wiseguys and all the typical characters that you used to find at the track. John is a throwback himself and I have gotten a chance to read the first part and you won’t want to miss it!

On tonight’s Going in Circles Big Monday show Barry and I recap the stakes action from the long holiday weeeknd. We talk about low hanging fruit and how racing should be picking it instead of throwing it away and in the last segment we talk of why it’s close to impossible to set up a social security system for retired horses funded from a dedicated % of earnings.
