With the Southwest being pushed back again, we talked about potential solutions for OP regarding the timing of the Rebel and Arkansas Derby and how tight the schedules are for horses originally pointing for the Southwest. We also talked about horses stretching out in distance and why a horse fading in sprints can be dangerous in a route race. Also got Barry’s thoughts on last Saturday’s Risen Star and El Camino Real stakes and potential Derby horses exiting those two preps. No picks were given! (For those who monitor such things)

On this weeks BIG MONDAY show Barry and I discuss last weekends Derby preps from Tampa, Aqueduct and Santa Anita (unofficial prep). Barry talks about his visit to Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday for the Sam Davis card with the Stable Duel people, Mr Grunder and his adventurous calls get some love, the last race DQ is knocked around as is the undercard stakes. Our thoughts on the Withers, weighing horses, asking why the upcoming Southwest is only a 10 point Derby prep (ludicrous) and some other thoughts on tweaking the point system to make it better. Other topics were emerging 4 year olds that may turn out to be solid horses if not this seasons stars like Hit the Road and mask police commentary as well.
