Avery Poppinga was playing professional beach volleyball, working at Nike, coaching, and picking up extra jobs just to keep her Olympic dream alive. Turns out spending your days on the beach is a dream job… right up until that LA rent is due. Then OnlyFans came along with a sponsorship — and suddenly, wearing the OF logo on her bikini was a no-brainer.
This week on Golden Rings, Bombette meets a fellow athlete who knows that competing at a high level doesn’t necessarily mean having money in your bank account. Avery explains how the OF deal works and what she actually posts (it’s probably not what you think), while Bombette starts wondering why she’s been giving away so much content for free...
There’s also a volleyball breakup that sounds suspiciously like getting dumped by a significant other, and the story of Avery running straight into a pole at her first beach volleyball practice. She left with a concussion and a new career ambition. Apparently, getting knocked senseless is one way to find your calling.

At 15, Bombette Martin was representing Great Britain in skateboarding’s first-ever Olympic competition. Getting to Tokyo took years of skating, an unexpected extra year to prepare, and a coach who figured out that asking nicely got him absolutely nowhere.
Welcome to the Golden Rings podcast. For our debut episode, Bombette brings on her longtime coach Juan Pinero — the person who helped her become an Olympian and would like a little credit for surviving the process.
Their story starts at Pier 62, where Bombette’s dad approached Juan about coaching his kids while Juan was… let’s say, in an altered state. They’ve been keeping each other humble ever since. From the tricks that got her to Tokyo to whether she “peaked at 15,” almost every memory comes with some trash talk from the other side.
This is your introduction to Bombette, courtesy of someone who knows her well enough to call her out — and knows she’ll dish it right back.
