Welcome to Greens & Grains, where whiskey, golf, and unforgettable journeys come together. In this episode, we take you deep into Western Ireland, where the Atlantic crashes against the links, the peat meets the pour, and the soul of whiskey and golf intertwine.
Our adventure kicks off with a stop at McCafferty’s Pub in Dungloe, where we warm up with a perfect pregame—a couple of smooth Irish whiskeys and pints of Guinness—before heading to Crolly Distillery, a revival of Donegal’s whiskey-making tradition. We dive into the history, the craft, and the Trilogy Experience, tasting standout expressions like Quercus Robur, a dram that cemented the GolfCask vision.
From there, it’s onto the legendary links of Donegal Golf Club, where the rugged beauty and relentless challenge of Murvagh’s dunes tested our swings (and our stamina). Through wind, rain, and a mild whiskey-induced haze, we took on one of Ireland’s great courses—emerging beaten, exhilarated, and in awe of the pure links experience.
No whiskey-golf trail would be complete without a visit to Silkie Distillery in Ardara, home to some of the finest peated Irish whiskey today. Guided by Head Distiller Graham, we got an insider’s look at their passion for peat, their innovative seaweed gin, and the Silkie Red Cask Strength—a whiskey that left a lasting impression.
Finally, we wrapped up the journey at Nancy’s Bar, a Donegal institution where whiskey flows, history lingers, and the warmth of a perfect Irish pub welcomes all.
This is more than just a trip—it’s the GolfCask way of life. A journey through whiskey and golf, camaraderie and storytelling, passion and tradition.
