  • "There is no Hometown Messiah" by Greg Chandler
After all the amazing miracles associated with the prophet Elisha, it may seem a bit surprising that he has only one fleeting mention in the New Testament. As the Lord opens the scroll in Nazareth to announce Himself as the One who fulfills the Scriptures as the Messiah, His listeners are perplexed. Can it really be that “our Jesus” is the one? Cutting no slack for their lack of belief, Jesus uses miracles performed by Elijah and Elisha to show how foreigners accepted the Lord when His “own people” would not. The people of Nazareth bear striking similarities. This sermon will discuss the attitude displayed by those who should have known Jesus the best and how Christians of the modern era can easily fall into this same dilemma.

  • "Elisha, a Servant, and Grace Denied" by Greg Chandler
Healed from leprosy, Naaman rejoiced and vowed loyalty to Yahweh, stating, “There is no God in all the earth but in Israel.” With the prophet Elisha’s blessing of peace, he began his journey back home as a changed man. Sadly, this magnificent display of God’s power to heal and save was muddied by the ungodly actions of a man who believed a price needed to be paid for God’s kindness. This study will focus on the ungodly attitudes of Elisha’s servant Gehazi which illustrate dangerous attitudes that can still be present today.

  • “Elisha, a Leper, and Two Loads of Dirt” by Greg Chandler
Good health is usually most appreciated only after it is lost. Such was the case for a man who had risen to the heights of military power only to face both physically and socially the debilitating impact of leprosy. With a glimmer of hope, he learns of the prophet Elisha and the possibility of healing. This study will aid in not only understanding what the leper Naaman found but also in learning about what the Great Physician Jesus Christ offers for spiritual healing.

  • “Elisha, Empty Pots, and Oil for a Widow" by Greg Chandler
Desperation is unsettling business! Reaching a point in one’s life where survival, whether physical, spiritual, or mental, is almost beyond reach leads to desperate attempts to attain what seems unattainable. An indebted widow from ancient days was desperate. On the verge of losing her family to debt slavery, she appealed to the prophet Elisha for help. His actions, along with her attitude, demonstrate important lessons for the people of God no matter the age in which they live. This sermon will explore this account and amplify the important principles it speaks.

  • “Two Cities and the Prophet Elisha" by Greg Chandler
How do bitter waters and mauling she-bears testify to the level of one’s faith? In the early days of Elisha’s ministry, God makes certain that those who come near His prophet not only respect him but most importantly respect the God for whom He speaks. This study will demonstrate a strong contrast between the faithful and faithless, as well as provide important lessons for the current people of God from these shadows of the past.

  • "Elisha, the Apostles, and Me" by Greg Chandler
Though separated by time, culture, and circumstances, an ancient prophet bears much in common with the Lord’s chosen apostles. With great similarities in their call, relationship with their master, and continuation of the work after their masters’ ascents into the skies, wonderful lessons can be gained by seeing their faithfulness on display. These lessons must not be lost to the modern people of God as they seek to answer and obey the call of their Master. In this study, we will seek to better understand our own calling, commitment, and continuation to the Lord and His will for us.
