  • 017: Why You’re Doing Everything But Selling: How to Make Sales Part of Your Business

You can be incredibly busy in your business and still avoid selling.

You can be creating content, updating your website, working on your messaging, serving clients, tweaking your prices, taking another course and telling yourself you’re doing all the right things. But when did you last do something that could directly lead to somebody buying from you?

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion Podcast, Anna is joined by sales expert and business growth strategist Anna Payne to talk about what she calls “Anything But Sales”: all the useful, productive-looking things we can do in business while avoiding the part that involves making an offer, following up or actually asking someone to buy.

They explore why “I don’t want to be salesy” can sometimes mean something more vulnerable: I don’t want to ask. I don’t want to hear no. They talk about the difference between marketing and selling, why visibility alone does not create a sales process, and why selling your own expertise can feel so much more exposing than selling on behalf of a company or brand.

Anna Payne also shares her own experience of working for free, undercharging and avoiding calling herself an expert despite years of sales experience, and why overgiving can sometimes become another way of avoiding the sale. Together they look at how Don’t Ask for Too Much, Stay Humble and other Invisible Rules can show up in the way we sell without us necessarily recognising them as sales problems.

There is also plenty of practical advice. Anna explains why she starts every working day with 30 minutes of “Sales First”, how to think about the different stages of a sales process, and why the goal of follow-up is not to pressure someone into saying yes but to help them make a decision.

If you have ever told yourself that people know where you are if they want to work with you, spent hours on marketing while avoiding the actual ask, or found yourself giving more and charging less because selling yourself feels uncomfortable, this episode will help you look at sales differently.

    It’s time.

  • 016: Why Being Seen Feels So Uncomfortable: How to Talk About What You Do Without Cringing

You can happily recommend someone else. You can tell people how brilliant a client is, explain an idea you care about or talk for hours about the work itself. But the moment you have to say, 'I’m really good at this. This is what I do. This is how I can help you', everything gets a bit uncomfortable.

If you’ve ever written a post about your business and then watered it down because it sounded too boastful, avoided sharing a win because you didn’t want to look full of yourself, or known you needed to be more visible but found yourself putting it off, this episode is for you.

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion Podcast, Anna is joined by copywriter and messaging strategist Abi Sea to explore why visibility can feel so tangled up with arrogance, showing off and the fear of what other people might think.

For many women, the problem isn’t that we secretly believe we have nothing to offer. We know we have experience, expertise and valuable work. The discomfort often comes up when we have to say that out loud. Suddenly, we’re worrying about sounding salesy, being too big for our boots or coming across as full of ourselves.

Anna and Abi look at where some of that comes from, including the messages many women grew up with about not showing off and why “she loves herself” was once such a powerful insult. They explore the possibility that being liked has often felt safer than being seen, and what that means when we build businesses that require us to talk about what we do, share our ideas and allow other people to recognise our expertise.

They also talk about why visibility doesn’t have to mean becoming louder, more performative or turning yourself into someone you don’t want to be. Abi shares her Hollywood Sign exercise, which helps shift the focus away from 'How do I talk about myself?' and towards the bigger change your work is trying to create and the people who genuinely need to hear from you.

The conversation explores why being excellent and being discoverable are different jobs, how to choose a form of visibility that actually suits you, and why setting a realistic bare-minimum visibility rhythm can be far more useful than constantly feeling as though you should be posting more.

And you don’t have to wait until you feel completely confident before you begin. As Abi puts it, practice makes comfy. The more you allow yourself to be seen in a way that feels like you, the less significant each post, email or conversation begins to feel.

  • 015: Why Being Your Own Safety Net Isn’t Working: How to Build a Business That Supports You Back

What happens when the entire safety net underneath your business is… you?

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion Podcast, Anna is joined by Emma Cowling, founder of Refresh Rewards, for a conversation about self-reliance, risk, support and what it really means to build a business that can support you back.

For many capable women, being good at coping becomes part of how we create security. We keep the day job for longer and keep our costs low. We do things ourselves because we know we can. We put off hiring, getting advice or creating support because I’ll deal with that when the business is bigger. And sometimes we keep the business small enough that we can continue to hold everything together.

It can look like sensible business planning. Sometimes it absolutely is. But sometimes there is an Invisible Rule underneath it: Keep Coping. I should be able to manage this myself.

Anna and Emma explore what happens when competence becomes the reason we don’t ask for support, the difference between planning responsibly and trying to eliminate uncertainty, and why Can I do this myself? is not always the same question as Should I be doing this myself?

They also talk about the ways women can unconsciously put limits around what their businesses are allowed to become. Why might our old salary become the amount we aim to replace, rather than something we are allowed to exceed? Why can doing work we love make us feel we should charge less? And why do flexibility, freedom and financial success so often get presented as though we have to choose between them?

Emma brings more than 20 years’ experience in employee benefits to the conversation, including her own experience of becoming self-employed and realising that many of the structures and protections she had previously taken for granted were now hers to think about. Together, Anna and Emma look at how we can move from simply relying on ourselves to building the support, expertise, systems and safety nets that allow both us and our businesses to grow.

Ultimately, this episode asks a bigger question: are you building a business that depends upon your ability to keep coping, or one that is capable of supporting you too?

    About Emma Cowling

Emma Cowling is the founder of Refresh Rewards, an independent employee benefits consultancy with more than 20 years’ experience, including working with global organisations such as Apple. After becoming self-employed herself, Emma became particularly interested in the support and protection women may leave behind when they step out of employment, and how we can become more intentional about building our own support systems.

  • 014: Why Chasing More Isn’t Working: How to Build Visibility, Trust and Community

More content isn’t always the answer.

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion Podcast, Anna is joined by Marti Jeremiah-Shelley, founder of Wee Bit Social, to talk about sustainable business visibility, slow social media and why building trust matters more than constantly chasing reach.

For many small business owners, marketing can start to feel like another full-time job they did not apply for. There is always another platform to join, another trend to follow and another piece of content to create. But being visible does not mean being everywhere, posting every day or becoming louder than everyone else.

As Marti explains, visibility is about being remembered by the right people.

Anna and Marti discuss how to choose the platforms and formats that genuinely suit you, why thoughtful content is different from perfect content and how consistency can be shaped around your business and your life.

They also look at the difference between an audience and a community. An audience may consume your content, but a community responds, contributes, recommends you and notices when you are not there.

In this episode, you will hear:

    • Why more content does not automatically create more trust

    • How to become visible without trying to be everywhere

    • The difference between thoughtful marketing and perfectionism

    • Why good work does not always speak for itself

    • How confidence develops after you start showing up

    • Why community matters more than follower numbers

    • How to create a sustainable approach to social media marketing

    • Why your first attempt should not look like somebody else’s tenth year

Marti also shares how an uncomfortable networking experience inspired her to create the kind of business community she wanted to be part of, starting with a simple invitation to meet other business owners for coffee.

If you know you need to make your business more visible but feel overwhelmed by the pressure to post constantly, this conversation will help you find a simpler, more human way forward.

  • 013: Why Knowing Better Isn't Enough: How to Change the Protective Patterns Holding You Back

Have you ever found yourself thinking:

I know I need to put my prices up.

I know I need to be more visible.

I know I should send that email.

I know I need to stop overthinking.

And yet... you still don't do it?

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion Podcast, Anna Campbell is joined by coach, clinical hypnotherapist and former solicitor Annabella Zeiddar to explore why knowing what to do isn't the same as actually doing it.

So many brilliant women believe they need another qualification, another course or another book before they'll finally feel ready. But what if the thing holding you back isn't a lack of knowledge? What if it's a protective pattern that's been trying to keep you safe all along?

Together, Anna and Annabella explore how perfectionism, people-pleasing, procrastination and overthinking often begin as intelligent survival strategies. They discuss why we mistake these behaviours for personality traits, how Good Girl conditioning reinforces them, and why building self-trust is far more powerful than waiting to feel confident.

    In this episode, you'll discover:

    • Why knowing better isn't enough to create lasting change.

    • How protective patterns develop and why they feel so difficult to overcome.

    • Why perfectionism, procrastination and people-pleasing aren't personality flaws.

    • How Good Girl conditioning keeps us seeking approval long into adulthood.

    • The difference between confidence and self-trust.

    • Why tiny "turtle steps" are often the fastest route to lasting change.

    • Practical ways to move forward when you know what needs to change but still feel stuck.

If you've ever wondered why you keep delaying the very things that would help your business and life move forward, this conversation offers a compassionate explanation and a practical way through.

  • 012: Why Capable Women Burn Out: How to Recognise High-Functioning Burnout

Do you ever feel exhausted but tell yourself you're just busy?

Do you keep going because everyone relies on you?

Do you look like you're coping on the outside while inside you're wondering why you feel so depleted?

If that feels familiar, this episode is for you.

Many women think burnout is something that happens when you can no longer function. But high-functioning burnout is different. You keep working and caring. You keep showing up. And because everything looks fine from the outside, you don't realise how much you're overriding yourself until your body starts demanding to be heard.

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion podcast, Anna Campbell is joined by holistic psychotherapist, spiritual coach and founder of Space for the Soul, Marie O'Neill, to explore why so many women become disconnected from their own needs while appearing to cope with everything around them.

Together, they discuss good girl conditioning, chronic stress, nervous system regulation and why sensitivity isn't something to overcome but something to understand. They explore why so many women normalise exhaustion, what our bodies may be trying to tell us and how we can begin building a more compassionate relationship with ourselves.

    In this episode:

    • What high-functioning burnout is and why it's often difficult to recognise
    • Why chronic stress can become your normal state
    • The connection between good girl conditioning and burnout
    • Understanding internal gaslighting and the pressure to keep coping
    • Why sensitivity is a strength rather than a weakness
    • Learning to listen to your body's signals before they become impossible to ignore
    • The difference between fixing yourself and understanding yourself
    • Why rest shouldn't have to be earned
    • How boundaries can change relationships
    • Why self-compassion creates more lasting change than self-criticism
    • What becomes possible when women stop overriding themselves and start listening to themselves

If you've ever looked fine on the outside while feeling exhausted on the inside, this conversation will remind you that you don't have to wait until you break before you start listening to yourself.

  • 011: Why Midlife Changes Everything: How to Redefine Success On Your Terms

Do you ever find yourself wondering whether the life you’ve built still works for you?

Do you feel less willing to tolerate things you used to accept, less interested in making everyone comfortable and more aware that your time and energy matter?

Do you sometimes look around and think: this all looks successful on paper… so why doesn’t it feel quite right anymore?

If that feels familiar, this episode is for you.

This episode of the Good Girl Rebellion podcast is a little different from usual.

Before the podcast existed, Anna joined relationship specialist Katie Rossler as part of the Behind the Transformation summit for a conversation about perimenopause. Katie kindly gave permission for the interview to be shared because while the conversation starts with hormones and midlife, it quickly becomes something much bigger.

Together, Anna and Katie explore why midlife can feel like such a turning point for women and what happens when the strategies that made us successful no longer feel sustainable.

They discuss good girl conditioning, identity, productivity, boundaries and the possibility that what we often experience as frustration, irritability or restlessness may actually be information.

Instead of being signs that something is wrong, maybe they are signs that something is changing.

This is a conversation about redefining success, becoming more intentional and asking whether the life you’ve built still reflects what you actually want.

    In this episode:

    • Why perimenopause can become a moment of recalibration rather than decline

    • Good girl conditioning and what happens when being capable and accommodating no longer feels sustainable

    • Why anger and irritability may be information rather than something to suppress

    • The idea that our nervous system can start withdrawing consent from overfunctioning and people pleasing

    • Identity audits and asking whether the life you’ve built still fits

    • Renegotiating our relationship with productivity, ambition and success in midlife

    • Boundaries, resentment and learning to pause before automatically saying yes

    • Becoming more visible, less people pleasing and creating a life that feels more aligned

    • Why asking “how do I get back to who I was?” may be the wrong question

    • Becoming more yourself rather than becoming somebody different

If you’ve been feeling the tension between who you’ve always been and who you’re becoming, this conversation is for you.

  • 010: Why Women Strive: How to Stop Chasing and Start Choosing

Do you ever reach a milestone and immediately move the goalposts?

Do you find yourself thinking: I’ll slow down after this launch, this month, this next thing… only to realise there is always another thing?

Do you feel driven and ambitious but secretly wonder why success still feels further away than it should?

If that feels familiar, this episode is for you.

This week on the Good Girl Rebellion podcast, Anna is joined by psychotherapist, mindful compassion coach and retreat leader Ange Cameron to talk about striving.

At first, this conversation looks like it’s about ambition.

But it quickly becomes something much bigger.

Together, Anna and Ange explore the difference between healthy ambition and proving, why so many women feel pressure to keep achieving without ever arriving, and how messages around productivity, resilience and “having it all” can quietly disconnect us from ourselves.

They talk about the difference between building from choice versus building from fear, why women often move from one set of expectations to another and call it freedom, and whether success is supposed to feel this exhausting.

This is a conversation about enough.

    About seasons.

About learning to distinguish capability from endless endurance.

And about asking whether the life you’re building is actually the one you want.

    In this episode:

    • What striving really means and why many women don’t recognise it in themselves

    • The difference between healthy ambition and proving your worth

    • Why reaching milestones doesn’t always create fulfilment

    • The connection between good girl conditioning and achievement

    • The hidden cost of constantly moving the goalposts

    • Why rest is not laziness and what happens in the brain when we recharge

    • Resilience versus capability and learning to honour your capacity

    • Building businesses and lives in seasons rather than constant output

    • Internal validation, self-worth and coming back to yourself

    • What becomes possible when women stop striving to become more and start trusting they already are enough

If you’ve ever felt exhausted by chasing the next milestone or wondered whether there is another way to succeed without abandoning yourself in the process, this conversation is for you.

  • 009: Why Women Wait for Confidence: How to Start Before You Feel Ready

Do you spend more time thinking about doing things than actually doing them?

Do you tell yourself you'll apply when you're more qualified, post when you're more confident, launch when you're more ready, speak up when you're more certain?

Do you look at other women and wonder how they seem to put themselves out there so easily while you're still second-guessing yourself?

If that feels familiar, this episode is for you.

So many capable women are stuck waiting for confidence to arrive before they take action. But what if confidence isn't something you feel first? What if confidence is something you build because you took the action?

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion podcast, Anna is joined by confidence coach Martyna Jablonska to explore why so many women struggle with self-doubt despite being more than capable, and how fear of judgement, perfectionism and good girl conditioning can keep us trapped in waiting mode.

Together, they discuss why confidence is a skill rather than a personality trait, how to stop focusing on worst-case scenarios, and why the women we admire are rarely the women who felt ready. They're the women who acted before they did - and it's time for you to do that too.

    In this episode:

    • Why capable women still struggle with confidence
    • The impact of good girl conditioning and fear of judgment
    • Why confidence is a skill, not something you're born with
    • The difference between confidence, competence and perfectionism
    • Why women often wait until they feel 'ready'
    • How confidence is built through action rather than certainty
    • Training your brain to focus on possibility instead of worst-case scenarios
    • The importance of getting outside your comfort zone and collecting evidence
    • Why focusing on the process matters more than obsessing over the outcome
    • What becomes possible when women stop waiting and start acting

If you've been waiting for confidence before taking the next step, this conversation may be the permission slip you've been looking for.

  • 008: Why Women Struggle to Receive: How to Stop Blocking the Things You Want

Do you struggle to ask for help? Undercharge, over-deliver, do everything yourself and quietly feel resentful that nobody seems to carry what you carry?

Do compliments make you uncomfortable? Do you find it easier to give support than receive it? Do you secretly feel more comfortable exhausted than supported?

This episode is going to hit hard for a lot of women because we are talking about receiving and why so many of us block the very things we say we want.

In this episode of the Good Girl Rebellion podcast, Anna explores how good girl conditioning trains women to become exceptional givers whilst feeling deeply uncomfortable receiving support, money, opportunities, visibility, care and recognition in return.

This episode looks at how struggling to receive shows up in business and life through undercharging, over-delivering, hyper-independence, people-pleasing and quietly saying no to ourselves before the world even gets the chance to answer.

Anna also shares the powerful idea that when we do not ask for what we want, we are rejecting ourselves in advance, alongside reflections on reciprocity, resentment, visibility, support and why some women are more comfortable exhausted than supported.

    In this episode:

    • Why women often feel safer giving than receiving
    • The connection between usefulness and self-worth
    • How struggling to receive shows up in business
    • Why over-giving can lead to resentment
    • Hyper-independence and the fear of asking for help
    • 100 coffees and becoming more open to opportunity
    • Why receiving is part of the Good Girl Rebellion
