What an episode! This was a great coffee and conversation with a dear friend of the show, Elias Akwo, owner of Crystal House. Located at 59 S. LaSalle street Elias and his business have quickly become the go-to place for all Aurora memorabilia, awards, gifts & trophies. We sat down to discuss our shared community of Aurora and the art of engraving. From chandelier repairs to family items and heirlooms Crystal House does so much for their customers. Family is key, and also not giving up on yourself; whatever you do, do not give up. Elias and Crystal House have made Aurora their home and as an entrepreneur and business owner, his roots run deep. Today we mourn the passing of the family member of a friend of the show; Mr. Charles Battaglia. Mr. Battaglia was a World War 2 veteran who passed away at 12:30 this morning. We wish the Battaglia family our condolences. We also pay an extra tribute to Mr. Greg Zanis who passed away this year and was known as the "Cross Man" of Aurora. Good Morning Aurora is made up Aurora Christian Alumni, veterans and authors; both men will be missed and we honor them for their contributions to our city and society. Today we listen and learn about a great Italian restaurant called Tufano's and we talk about Italian culture. Our co-host Salvatore is Italian and what was great to discuss is our current times from an Italian point of view. What a lot of people don't know is that Sal comes from a long history of Italian immigration into Chicago. From penniless, humble beginnings his family was able to start a restaurant that's been a Chicago staple for 4 generations. We then discuss the recent spotlight given to Christopher Columbus and calls for the removal of his statue. With so much attention being given to the legacy of revered individuals we thought it important to speak to an Italian and get their feelings. Good Morning Aurora is proud to be a sounding board and a place where all ideas can be discussed freely. Knowledge is power, and when we speak to each other we become more powerful.
