Good Morning Aurora

Good morning and happy Monday dear listeners! Your favorite morning crew, BTP & your dedicated host, are here for news and laughs! We hope you've all had a blessed weekend, let's get into the news!

- @Freeman Elementary School PTA and West Aurora School District 129 are teaming up in a fundraiser to replace school playground equipment. Parent Emily Adams wrote on a neighborhood message board that the effort is designed to replace a "caterpillar" play structure erected at Freeman in 1986. The structure was a memorial donated by the parents and sister of Oren Davis, 10, Freeman student who died of leukemia. The caterpillar was removed recently after rust and corrosion damage to the structure's base and head raised safety concerns. To raise funds, partners are selling pizza kits by Luigi's Pizza and Fun Center Cost is $10 for a kit with five mini pizza crusts, an extra dough ball, 2 ounce cup of 3 toppings, 4 ounce cup of cheese and 2.5 ounce cup of sauce. Orders will be distributed at a drive-through from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at Luigi's parking lot, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora. Fifty percent of sales will benefit the project. A helping hand goes a long way! Today we were joined by Calvin & Marilyn Wilson, the husband and wife team behind 2nd Chance Inc., a local nonprofit. They are awesome people with a great story and we met them while getting exercise. Last month, they hosted a walk-a-thon to raise funds for more projects like an upcoming picnic and service day. Recently, both Calvin, Marilyn and other participants provided meals to those less fortunate on Memorial Day. These are two very nice and loving people and we’re honored to be able to share their story. Their next initiative will be a Community Day Picnic on August 7th. Shouts out to a great team and we will keep up with their success!

Another day, another wonderful writer to speak with. Today we were joined on the show by author Cindy Ervin Huff, who is also the founder of the Aurora Word Weavers. From book signings at If These Walls Could Talk to winning CELA Awards, Cindy shared her awesome story with us. As a person with a lot of Aurora history, we also speak with Cindy about the current outlook for the city and her opinions on things. Some advice Cindy gave to up and coming writers: “learn the craft”. Her newest book “Angelina’s Resolve” is out and available for purchase. Stay tuned for all Cindy has coming and check out her website here: Cindy Ervin Huff – Infusing Joy with Writing
