I Samuel 2:12 says, “Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know the LORD.” He was tolerant of his sons’ sins but harsh on others. He rebuked them once, but did not restrain them or remove them when they did not obey.

Eli became an enabler. He enabled his sons’ behavior rather than resist or oppose it.

If we do not assume responsibility for shepherding our family, God will hold us accountable.
