In chapter one of Ruth, God's hand of providence fell hard on Naomi and her family. She lost her husband and two sons. One blow after another caused Naomi to say, "The Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me, ... and has brought calamity upon me. This bitterness caused Naomi to not see God working for her good.
In chapter 2, it is so very clear that it is God's providence (not coincidence, luck or chance) in the life of Ruth that even Naomi can see his hand orchestrating events.
We see God working "behind the scenes" to bring Ruth and Boaz together as Ruth "just happens" to glean in the field of Boaz, a kinsman. He "just happened" to drop by and see her in the distance.
