  • Jack Cooke | Beyond Films: From Meeting Andrew Lincoln to Building a Business

🎬 What happens when you turn your childhood passion into your career?

This week on Goodfellerz, Clarke and Shaun are joined by Jack Cooke, founder of Beyond Films, for an inspiring and entertaining conversation about filmmaking, entrepreneurship, career changes and following your dreams.

Jack takes us right back to where it all began — watching films as a child, experimenting with a home video camera and recreating famous scenes with his brothers.

We hear how an unexpected meeting with Andrew Lincoln, known for The Walking Dead and Love Actually, helped open doors in the television industry.

But Jack's career was anything but straightforward.

From working in television to leaving the industry, becoming a personal trainer, travelling around Australia with his wife Kate and eventually rediscovering his passion for filmmaking, Jack shares the experiences that shaped his journey.

    We also discuss:

🎥 Breaking into the film and television industry
🎬 The art of storytelling and video production
💼 Building Beyond Films from the ground up
💷 Understanding your value as a business owner
❤️ Following your passion despite setbacks
🌏 Travel, family and changing career paths
🚀 The importance of creativity, persistence and taking opportunities

Jack also shares how his wife encouraged him to return to filmmaking and how a small creative project eventually developed into the business he runs today.

🥤 Drinks of the Week: We swap our usual beer review for a tasting of TRIP drinks, trying Blood Orange, Apple Blossom and Elderflower & Mint.

It's a conversation full of fascinating stories, business advice, unexpected career twists and classic Goodfellerz banter.

  • Do Nights Out Get Better As You Get Older? Mates, Stag Dos & Wild Stories

This week we're talking about mates, nights out and what happens to friendships as you get older.

After finally reuniting with a group of mates we hadn't properly been out with for years, we headed to Pasture in Bristol for steak before spending the night drinking, gaming and reliving our youth at NQ64.

And somehow, despite the years that had passed, it felt like we'd seen each other yesterday.

That takes us back to where the group started: a stag do in Berlin in 2018 — superhero costumes, WWE outfits, getting rejected from the KitKat Club and the sort of stories that still get brought up nearly a decade later. Pasted text

We talk about our best nights out, legendary stag dos, friendships that survive years apart, making new best mates in your 30s and 40s, and whether a small reliable circle beats having loads of friends.

We also ask the important question:

Pub & club or meal & games?

At our age, we might finally be switching sides. 😂

Later, our mate Chris joins us to talk about the incredible progress of GY30 and being named a finalist in the BBC Radio Make a Difference Awards.

Chris talks openly about his own journey with mental health, how exercise helped him rebuild his life and why he's now dedicated so much of his time to helping other people improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Pasted text

And then, naturally, we drag him into the night-out conversation — which leads to Prague, Krakow, stag dos, clubbing until 4am and an absolutely brutal fake bungee-jump prank.

🍺 Beer of the Week: Waterloo Belgian farmhouse ale, supplied by Beers of Europe.

What's the best night out you've ever had — and do you think nights out actually get better as you get older?

“Yeah, I’m alright.” But how often do we go beyond that?

Clarke and Shaun sit down for an honest brother-to-brother check-in, answering 10 questions men rarely ask each other.

They discuss pride in being dads and husbands, grief after losing loved ones, money worries, struggling with sleep, supportive friendships and the fear of getting older when you’ve got children. Plus: what they’d tell their younger selves, who they’d call at 2am and what makes them happiest.

  • Is Social Media Actually Making Us READ More? 📚 BookTok, Screen Time & Mental Health

Could one of the solutions to too much screen time actually be… social media?

In this episode of the Goodfellerz Fellas Series, Clarke and Shaun talk about the rise of BookTok, Bookstagram and online reading communities — where social media is being used to encourage people to put down their phones and pick up a book.

After recently talking about the 90s, childhood before smartphones and how much time we now spend staring at screens, this felt like an interesting flip side to the argument.

We get into kids and reading, screen time, mental wellbeing, nighttime routines, audiobooks and why finding the right book can completely change your relationship with reading.

We also talk about some of our own favourites, including:

📚 Matthew Reilly's Jack West Jr. series
    🎯 The Jason Bourne books
💍 The Lord of the Rings
    ⚔️ John Gwynne
🎧 Audiobooks and the difference a great narrator can make
🧠 Non-fiction, biographies and books that can actually teach you something

Plus, a shout-out to our editor Sole and JBH Books and Games for showing just how relaxing and engaging book content can be.

Maybe social media doesn't always have to compete with reading.

Maybe it can lead people towards it.

    Now we want your recommendations:

What's your favourite fiction book AND your favourite non-fiction book?

Tell us what it is and, more importantly, why you think we should read it.

  • Would You Rather…? The Questions That Got WAY Too Difficult

The Fellerz Series is BACK — and we're starting with a game of Would You Rather that goes from ridiculous to surprisingly deep very quickly.

Shaun has a list of questions. Clarke hasn't seen them. And we have to make a choice.

⏰ Stop time for an hour every day or rewind your life by an hour?

    💰 £500,000 now or £1,000 every time you run a sub-12-minute mile?

📚 Instantly absorb every book you touch or learn any physical skill simply by watching a video?

😇 See Heaven or Hell for 30 minutes?

🔮 Give your past self one piece of advice or ask your future self one question?

👶 And the one that completely changes the conversation: what would you do if you discovered your baby had been switched at birth one year later?

We also decide what age we'd stay forever, whether we'd rather see through walls or lies, TikTok fame vs YouTube fame and what exactly we'd do with an army of 1,000 completely loyal dwarfs.

    Some are stupid.

    Some are difficult.

And a couple genuinely had us questioning what we'd do.

Play along and let us know your answers.

The Fellerz Series is where we'll be bringing back more shorter Goodfellerz episodes — games, debates, questions and conversations alongside the main podcast.

  • Conquering Pen y Fan! 🏔️ PLUS Going Back to Our School Days | Goodfellerz

Clarke is fresh off conquering Pen y Fan with his dad — and this week we're talking mountains, fatherhood and going right back to our own school days.

At 23 stone, with his dad approaching 70, Clarke takes us through their climb to the top of the highest peak in South Wales: the brutal climb, battered toes on the descent, the people they met along the way and why spending that one-on-one time together made the challenge mean so much more.

It also gets us thinking about what's next…

    🏔️ Ben Nevis
⛰️ The National Three Peaks Challenge
    🌍 Mont Blanc
🔥 And maybe one day, Kilimanjaro

Then, with our own kids heading back to school, we're getting nostalgic.

We remember Pokémon cards, Tamagotchis, yo-yos, Nokia phones, Parker pens, Miniclip, school dinners, packed lunches, playground football, passing notes in class, terrible PE kits and the absolute humiliation of accidentally calling a teacher "Mum".

There's also a very different feeling this time around as parents, with Shaun's eldest starting secondary school and Clarke's son about to walk through the school gates for the very first time.

Plus, Shaun's charity golf day raising money for cystic fibrosis — including possibly the shortest-lived golden ball in the competition's history — kids' football, Premier League and F1 chat.

🍺 Beer of the Week: We're keeping it local with two Bristol beers from Arbor Ales — Holding Out For A Beer and Glade Runner — and the ratings get VERY high.

What is the one thing you remember most about your school days?
