Welcome to Scorcese’s 6th feature film New York New York, A gritty film diving into the crime ridden underbelly of….. Wait, what did you say? It’s a musical? Are you sure?
Ok, I guess I should watch it before writing this. Ok I’m back. Welcome to Marty’s 6th feature film, New York New York, A musical drama, yes musical, that follows the rise of two musically inclined lovers in the aftermath of WWII. De Niro’s Jimmy Doyle is a hot headed saxophonist with ambition to get to the top no matter the cost. Liza Minneli’s Francine is a singer who elevates every performance she joins and it looks like the sky is the limit for her, but will Jimmy get in the way of her rise to fame?
With huge “old Hollywood” style sets, whimsical musical numbers, and a full Broadway show medley, New York New York is Scorsese like you’ve never seen him before. How did it land with Kevin and Forrest? Listen to this week’s episode of Goodmovies Podcast to find out.
