His refusal shows that mere attendance, religious association, or outward response is not enough. The kingdom is wide open, but only those clothed in Christ's righteousness are truly chosen.

In 1 Corinthians 12:4–7, Paul reveals God's design for spiritual gifts in the life of the local church. Every believer has been graciously gifted by God—not for personal recognition, status, or self-promotion, but to serve others and build up the body of Christ. In this sermon, Pastor Robb Brunansky examines the character, source, and purpose of spiritual gifts. Though the gifts are wonderfully diverse, they all come from the same Triune God. They are gifts of grace, intended for serving others, empowered by God rather than human ability, and designed to manifest the presence and work of the Holy Spirit among His people. This passage challenges the consumer mindset that can easily shape our view of church. Christians are not called merely to attend, receive, and consume. Every member of Christ's body has been equipped to contribute. God has entrusted each believer with gifts to steward faithfully for the spiritual good of others. Ultimately, the purpose of spiritual gifts is not to exalt the gifted person but to strengthen Christ's church and glorify God. If the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are each actively involved in building up the church, every member of the church should likewise be committed to using what God has given them to serve one another.

Christian songs, particularly the Psalms, serve as theological instruction for daily living rather than mere musical entertainment or even a tool for corporate worship. In the first three of ten observations (the rest to follow in ensuing sermons), Psalm 106 teaches believers 1) to give thanks to God because He is good and His mercy endures forever, even amidst human failure and sin; 2) that true worship requires a life consistent with justice and righteousness; and 3) corporate and personal confession of sin, relying on God's faithfulness and justice through Jesus Christ for forgiveness, is also a theme of true biblical singing.

Paul tell us to stand fast. What practical help does he give us in doing so? We must look to good role models, look to our citizenship in heaven, and look to the coming of Christ!
