Welcome to The GoodTimes Show with Damon Epps! Today we would like to introduce our extraordinary guest, Roland Smith, an American author whose prize-winning publications include fiction and nonfiction. His latest novel, "The Switch," is a thrilling story about how far people will go to survive.
Roland Smith's journey began at age five when his parents gave him an old manual typewriter that sparked his love of writing. His writing style started to take shape when he took his first job at the Portland Zoo, where he had to figure out how to handle dangerous animals without training—eventually, becoming a children's writer with his first book, "Sea Otter Rescue," inspired by his involvement in the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska, where he led a team of experts to figure out a way to capture and save Sea Otters in the wild, which had never been done before.
Roland Smith has received many writing awards, including the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Children's Book Award for his historical fiction novel "The Captain's Dog" and the Oregon Book Award for Young Readers for "Journey of the Red Wolf," inspired by his dozens of years as a wolf biologist.

This week on The GoodTimes Show, Damon Epps is joined by Rod Bigelow, the Executive Director and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and let’s just say, this one’s a must-listen.
We’re diving into the story of Crystal Bridges: the museum that’s turning heads, challenging critics, and completely shifting how we think about American art. Born from Alice Walton’s bold vision, this isn’t your average quiet museum in the woods. It’s a stunning architectural landmark in Bentonville, Arkansas, with free admission, world-class collections, and a mission that’s all about inclusion, representation, and rethinking the rules.
Rod shares how the museum went from “a vanity project in the middle of nowhere” (yep, people really said that) to a cultural powerhouse with over 5.6 million visitors. From million-dollar acquisitions and East Coast drama to what it truly means to create space for everyone this episode goes there.
We talk about what it takes to push back against the gatekeepers of the art world and why making space for new voices is more urgent than ever. Plus, Rod gives a glimpse into what’s next for Crystal Bridges and how they’re planning to keep breaking the mold.
Recorded live from the Sound Lounge at Blake Street House, this is an inside look at one of the most talked-about museums in the country, and the man helping lead it into the future.

This week on The GoodTimes Show with Damon Epps, we’re sitting down with the guy who literally built a building you can ride a bike up. No joke. Josh Kyles, a developer, innovator, and lowkey urban visionary. He is the brain behind The Ledger in Bentonville, Arkansas: the world’s first bikeable building and one of the coolest workspaces you’ve probably never heard of… until now.
The Ledger isn’t just an office building. It’s 230,000 square feet of pure vibe, coworking, retail, events, and office space all smashed together in the heart of downtown Bentonville. Think showers for cyclists, rooftop views, and enough flex space to make your startup feel like a Fortune 500.
Josh saw that the office grind was changing and people want purpose, not just cubicles. So he built something different. Something better. Something people actually want to show up to. We dive into his story, how he pulled it off, and what it takes to build something iconic (and extremely rideable) .
Follow @ledgerbentonville on Instagram to peep the space and see what the hype’s about.
Catch this episode now on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts. Let’s ride.

After two decades producing some of television’s most famous character-driven unscripted shows, such as Jersey Shore, America’s Got Talent, Joe Millionaire, and Chrisley Knows Best, I learned the best stories aren’t about fame or the spectacle; they’re about why. Why people chase a dream. Why they risk it all. Why they keep going. My job is to connect with the people and create an environment where they trust me to reveal their true selves, and I follow the story through the show. And I love it!
When the world shut down and Hollywood began to unravel, I followed love and landed in Bentonville, Arkansas, a small town with an incredible big story. Here, Fortune 1 meets mountain bike trails that wind through art museums and live music venues. Here, the Waltons’ vision for culture and community has turned Bentonville into one of America’s fastest-growing and most inspiring destinations.
I love this place, the people, the culture, the sense of possibility. Every day, I’m blown away by someone’s story. My favorite part of producing reality TV has always been getting to know people, discovering why they do what they do, and tracing the journey that got them there.
Because the why isn’t just where every story begins — it’s where every good time lives.
