Microsoft has hired Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google's DeepMind, to lead its consumer artificial intelligence (AI) business. In his new role, Suleyman will oversee projects such as integrating AI into Windows and adding conversational features to Bing. His hiring will centralize Microsoft's consumer AI work under one leader for the first time. Suleyman's company, Inflection AI, will shift its focus to selling AI software to businesses. Microsoft remains committed to its partnership with OpenAI but wants to strengthen its in-house AI capabilities. Suleyman's move was prompted by an invitation from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to bring real competition to the AI market.
