Saskatoon's longest-running charity dinner is still going ahead, despite COVID-19. The B’nai Brith Silver Plate Charity Dinner is switching to a virtual event for its 66th year, and will be held Nov. 4, including an online auction. The dinner has supported many different charities over the years, and always honours a special person or group with the We Are Proud of You award. This year, the award is being given to front line medical workers. To tell us more, John is joined by Dr. Steven Goluboff with B’nai Brith, and Dr. Tony Haddad, who will be receiving the award on behalf of the workers.

The Northern Village of Buffalo Narrows passed a bylaw this year banning anyone from running for elected office if they have a criminal record or owe money on utilities or back taxes. Sandy Erikson, who attempted to run for mayor but was disqualified due to outstanding taxes, says the Village of about 1,200 passed the bylaw quickly and secretly, and have been using it as a cudgel to prevent challenges against the incumbents. Erikson and other concerned residents collected more than 420 signatures on a petition to quash the bylaw, which she says led to at least 14 candidates being disqualified from running. Saskatchewan saw 67 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing our active case count up to 666, the highest it's been since the start of the pandemic. Health Minister Jim Reiter joined Dr. Saqib Shahab yesterday as they announced new restrictions for Saskatoon nightclubs, which have been linked to major outbreaks. Starting Friday, Saskatoon's clubs must close at 11:00 p.m. and cannot serve alcohol after 10:00 p.m., along with a number of additional measures. Reiter joins Gormley to tell us about the changes to our public health order, and whether nightclubs and their patrons are being responsible about the virus.
