The U of S Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization-International Vaccine Centre, known as VIDO-InterVac, received an additional $23M in federal funding Thursday to fast-track efforts to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. In addition to the search for a vaccine, scientists at the industry-leading facility have been working on ways to disinfect N95 respirators to help relieve the shortage of protective equipment currently many affecting Canada's healthcare workers. VIDO-InterVac's director/CEO Volker Gerdts joins Gormley for an update on the centre's work.

Doctors in the US believe they've discovered a new and scary complication connected to COVID-19 - blood clotting. A group of American physicians noticed that as many as 20-40% of COVID-19 patients developed clotting issues, including some patients who were already being treated with anticoagulant drugs. Dr. Lewis Kaplan, head of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and physician at the University of Pennsylvania, says doctors often treat patients with clotting issues, but what they're seeing in COVID-19 patients is an extreme case. While the clotting has now been identified, Kaplan says the cause of the issue is still unknown and that leaves doctors scared. Kaplan joins Gormley to discuss blood clotting and COVID-19.

The Province and Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation have agreed on terms for a new contract. If ratified, the contract would see teachers receive 2% salary increases in 2020, 2021, and 2022, though the agreement doesn't include stipulations on class size and composition, which had been a major sticking point for teachers.
