The encampment in front of Regina City Hall is coming down. After a tent went up in flames, the Fire Chief used his authority to call for its dismantling. This gives people in the encampment 24 hours to pack up before being forcefully removed. Regina Mayor Sandra Masters has been looking out her office window at the camp for weeks. The University of Regina’s Dementia Supports in Rural Saskatchewan (DSRS) team collaborates with the University of Saskatchewan’s Rural Dementia Action Research (RaDAR) to establish a memory clinic. The Clinic will be located in the Esterhazy District Medical Clinic to help people with concerns about dementia. Dr. Debra Morgan is Professor and Chair of Rural Health Delivery at the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health in the Department of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. The City of Saskatoon has wrapped up another special budget meeting to find ways to reduce the funding gap of more than $70 million in 2024 and 2025. Those gaps have been reduced to $23.2 million, which would result in a 9.96 percent in 2024 and 6.17 percent in 2025 property tax increase. Many organizations have suggested options for the city, including the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, with a seven percent cost reduction across all departments and city-funded agencies. Jason Aebig is the CEO of the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and joins Gormley to get his reaction to the latest budget update.
