GOSHpods Goes Green is back for a third series, this time focussing on medicines sustainability.
The NHS as an employer is responsible for 4% of the UK’s total carbon emissions, and medicines are responsible for 25% of that. We’re going to explore this topic further, taking a journey through the lifecycle of a medicine, covering everything from production and procurement, use of medicines in hospitals and homes, all the way through to medicines disposal, all to properly explore how we can change the impact that medicines have on the environment.
In this fourth episode Sarah talks to Stephen Tomlin, director of the Children's Medicines Research and Innovation Centre and lead for medicine sustainability at GOSH, and Complex Asthma CNSs Nicola Moodey and Stacey Morris. They talk about the impact inhalers have on the environment, and what hospitals and clinicians can do to reduce that impact.
